Before I talk about damage I should mention what Arcane Thesis is. Arcane Thesis is a feat from Complete Arcane that allows you to pick one spell (only one) and apply all metamagic as if the penalty for each metamagic were one point lower (stops at 0). This means that adding still spell and silent spell doesn't increase the level of the spell. You can break a few spells with it, but in this case it's powerful, but not overly broken.

Welp, I know what the next feat I'm picking up for Anya is. Empower Magic Missiles as a Level 1 spell? Yes please. :3 With class features lowering Empowered and Maximized by 1 spell level each, Empowered would be +0 and Maximize +1. Finally a use for my Level 2 spell slots!

1. What I remembered about the session was good. I tripped practically everything, but then again we weren't fighting something that flew, or had more than 2 legs. I'm sure that'll balance itself in time. No one took Ohen's rolls while we were dealing with the ghost ship. Did I not roll enough natural 20s? :P

2. I disliked the idea of all summons having a permanent 20% failure chance. It's like having a 20% arcane magic failure rate while using divine magic. I hope that lets up in a while.

...Which source are you using? The one that I'm seeing is a 5 level class from Dragon #328. That one doesn't list that as a feature.

EDIT: By the way Ikkeeliou is going to make a one-shot appearance this week if no one minds.

*le sigh*

Good job, Fool. ):

You know, some day I'm going to rain fire(Energy Substitution, yo! :P) on y'all with bosses that are optimized-to-the-end-of-the-Abyss-and-back. >.>

In fact, let's switch hard mode on now >_< (I read that at end-game levels, it is common for PCs to die then be resurrected.) Only qualm I have is that people tend to be either one-shotted(looks at Anya&the Charging Unoptimized Paladin, or the Dire Walrus-riding Kobold Lancers of Chunky Salsa, or the save-or-die spells, or Prismatic Spray's 3/4/7th abilities...) or pwn everything(looks at everyone).

Also, I realized that Easy Metamagic is underpowered, because that one stops at +1.

:\

PROPOSED HOUSE RULE
'Death effects' simply reduce the target's HP to -1 and stable, instead of instant death. Two death effects in a row equals death.

Yes/no? I think I'll make a poll.

Anya is using a 10 level expanded homebrew class on the Giantitp forums.

The 20% chance... it's going to get worse.

Sadly. It'll first progress to 50%, then to '50%, AND summoned creatures don't go back after spell ends', then to 'caster level check or lose spell'.

Actually Sky, that was Rae (who has 100 more HP than Anya) that got oneshotted from a single charge. And I believe that since she was killed that badly resurrection was impossible (body was completely destroyed, as I recall). Anyway, I think the best solution would be to not use optimized enemies, but simply more enemies. Even if we blow through them fairly easily, it's still a battle of attrition, and the characters will get worn down (HP, spells, abilities) over time. Plus we players get to slaughter hordes of mooks, so it's win/win. :))

Also, that house rule is fine with me.

@Fool: I'm using this one because I don't have that issue of Dragon.

Just so you know Ikkeeliou is bad for mooks. She has splitting spells to hit up to two people, but other than that she can only deal with one mook at a time. If we get swarmed and Rudra isn't there to clear the mooks then Ikkeeliou would almost definitely be crushed from her low HP and low AC. Arcane Thesis is a fun feat, but it really makes your spellcaster a one trick pony.

House rule works for me. I never did like save or die effects just because you can't really defend yourself from that forever, eventually one will get through.

I'm not sure if Improved Magic Missile would count as the same as Magic Missile for the purposes of Arcane Thesis. I don't deny that the metamagic reductions stack, but whether normal, improved, and greater magic missile count as one spell is up to Sky.

That would be an issue if I ever actually used Improved or Greater. I haven't done so once so far. :)) I would not count them simply because they're not the same spell, the same way I wouldn't expect it to work for Chain Missile. I might Arcane Thesis Greater, not sure yet. I still have time to figure it out before Anya's next level anyway though.

Also @Sky: The difference between Arcane Thesis and Easy Metamagic is that AT is for one spell and EM is for all spells. EM isn't underpowered in that respect, at least, and they're probably stackable... >.>

Easy Metamagic could easily supplement Ikkeeliou's build. It would mean that Split would be on everything. Even level 2 Ray of Cold. That's actually a scary concept. I'll keep that in mind for when I transfer this character to another campaign this summer. I'm going to be the only powergamer at the table, so this might be fun. :P

Another alternative if you want to stop a mage is either incorporeal enemies (50% miss chance), displacement cloaks (20-50% miss chance) or anti-magic golems. All of those will annoy any mage. The displacement cloaks work on everyone though.

Won't stop Anya. Force magic (such as magic missile) deals full damage to incorporeal, and magic missile NEVER misses. :3

Golem could be a problem though... But that's what we have people like Dirge and Alzakar for. :3

Bump for poll~

Also, the next dungeon might be slightly too hard for you people >.> Optimization nonwithstanding, these monsters are not only not published at all, they also aren't tested. :P

Might turn out to be a fiasco~

Fiascos are what Ikkeeliou is all about. She's a lawful evil temple raider.

On another note I have a cake in my profile. This pleases me.

We don't have either. What we do have is a blueberry creme brule cheesecake. It's 2 things I love topped with blueberries.
