Mini-Session 2 : Encounter Levels Are Untrustable

1 Celestial Monstrous Spider
1 Hill Giant
1 Invisible Stalker

The spider was one-shotted by Kanes.
The giant was flanked to death.
The Stalker almost got away, but Tali destroyed it with a well placed crossbow bolt.

Spoiler: Loot (click to show/hide)

Tali - 710 xp + 200 rp
Kanesrae - 710 xp + 200 rp
Cript, Shoruke, Fool, Alith - 610 xp

It turns out Tali was from a DF - style fortress.

Anyways, I learned that ELs and CRs aren't exactly the best guides :3 It was way too easy.

Tomorrow is finally the regular session!

BONUS : Tiny gold dragon scale for Kanesrae, large black dragon scale for Tali.

QUESTIONNES : As usual: How was it? Things to fix? Gold dragon is plothook or throwaway?

Fun times; we made Wheatly vomit. :3 Once I fix the broken images on this log, I'll put it up with the rest. ^^^ Also, @Dwarmin: we can talk about your alt here or through PM, up to you.

OK, done that. Questionnaire time!

1. Surprisingly easy, as noted. The only real challenge was the Invisible Stalker, and that was only because we couldn't see it. The giant wouldn't have done as well as he did if I had been over there to be taking hits instead of Dwarmin (meaning I'm not doing my job as team tank ^^^; ), though it was kind of necessary since I had to kill the spider.

2. ...Can't believe I'm saying this, but maybe make combat a little more difficult? In gaming terms, the five sessions have been on Casual mode. That was fine the first four, where we were still learning everything and figuring out how to effectively use our characters, but I think it's time to move up to Normal mode. (Maybe by Session 10 we'll be ready for Hard mode? :P)

3. I would lean towards seeing it again, if only because Rae would want to, but I think it's more interesting if we don't know if we'll ever run into it again or not. :3

Question for everyone in general: I'm thinking maybe the problem is that Rae is actually throwing off game-balance a little. :\ Everyone seems underpowered because she hits really hard and often, and Rage just makes her more powerful. Should I respec her as a fighter, or some other melee class? I don't want to get rid of the character (any editing would only be to class because I like her personality and everything), just class-change her.

1. Eh, easy for SC, but for me I was about to die while doing poking damage. Granted, SC was busy and there were only the the two of us. That really lucky trip and me bugging SC to save Tali was the only thing that kept me alive. Not sure if I built my char wrong or this was just a bad situation for her.

2. Seems fine to me. Most battles have been more tactically tricky than physically tough though. And Kansrae hogs the spotlight by power critting all the time. :P

3. Yes, it's a good plothook. Drop it when we're not expecting it!

@SC: You think you could come up with a pog image similar to Kanesrae, but sort of distinctive? I'm not sure if she's younger or older than Kanesrae yet, so maybe you could choose whichever looks better. Edit: Bonus points if they look related. :)

My first name idea is "Riawilde Tyrmitore".

@Skyrunner: I'm thinking of being a Spirit Shaman from complete divine.

Pretty much a spontaneous blaster caster with Druid spell list, and alot of skills for busting up Incorporeal Undead, Fey and Elementals.

Ria would probably be older; I was looking at the PH and realized Elves are supposed to be 110 before they start play. Rae is only 72. o.O That's younger than Aragorn, ffs. But yeah, that's what I thought: overpowered. I need to tone her down somehow. :\ Anyway, I'll work on that image. :3

No, your char is fine SC-you're supposed to be blowing things up. My gal is supposed to be supporting melee.

Well... as you said, hogging the spotlight. I'm aware of it, too; it kinda does feel like I am doing that, since most of our encounters are combat and that's what Rae excels at. Things could be worse, I guess. I could be playing a gestalt Barbarian / Rogue. :P (Stacking sneak attacks on what she can already do? Yeah, that would really not be fair...) Also, what color clothing do you want on this image?

Number 3 was for discussion more than actually deciding :3

This was probably the worst situation for Tali. Rogues should never attempt to play fairly with tanks. Never.

(peers over imaginary spectacles) NEVER!

Also, about

Question for everyone in general: I'm thinking maybe the problem is that Rae is actually throwing off game-balance a little. :\

Look at the fourth panel of this comic.

1d20 + 567 .... (though it is a power attack :P) Barbarians are supposed to be damage dealers!

...Don't worry, though, spellcasters will make you very sad :3

Woohoo, Chain Lightning for 6d8+11 damage! :D

Ria would probably be older; I was looking at the PH and realized Elves are supposed to be 110 before they start play. Rae is only 72. o.O That's younger than Aragorn, ffs.

Young indeed!

Fine with that then, our party needs some arcane power anyways :3 Along with shoruke, that is... though if I read correctly, Archivists use divine magics?

Anyways... CR and EL is really not 100% reliable :P I mean... three 10th levels fighting a 11th level should be appropriate, but the GCS Monstrous spider got 1 hit KO-ed ... Poor Celestial.

I wonder why a Chaotic Good creature (Celestial template) would attack Kanes...

since most of our encounters are combat

Hmm... that might have to change . . .

Hmm............

About the same as yours, I guess. No significant deviations. She's sort of a priest, so her clothes might be brighter than Kanes.

Only problem there is Rae wears black. ^^^; (Currently I'm using green as a placeholder color.) Eh, anyway. Moar questions. I have two variants going on at the same time, so, choose now: Headscarf or no headscarf? And make-up or no make-up? Earrings or no earrings? (Rae has them, but they're thin gold cylinders and sort of hard to see against her hair. If you look at her earlobes you can see where they start.) And finally, feathers and leaves like Rae has on her shoulders, or none?

OK, will resume work. I guess I'll make her clothes a sort of dark, earthy brown?

((Writing a narrative essay draft, realizes halfway through that the story I chose to tell was too lacking in theme, gets depressed, starts humming Barney song while spinning in computer chair. Yup.))

To-do list :

Draw world (or continent) map.
Populate said map.
Create non-dungeon missions.
Make a more definitive plot >.>

That sucks, Sky. :C

In other news... Dwarmin: Anything about this first draft you want changed? Or do you like it how it is? (Even though it's my avatar, I'll put Rae's pic beside hers for comparison purposes.)

Quick Edit: I just noticed that placing them that way makes it look like they're looking at each other. ^^^
