Vow of Poverty. Who needs items when saying "screw items" does the same thing, but leaves the rest of your team with your share of the loot?

Actually I picked the name the Fool for a different reason. The tarot card the Fool (and the TVtropes page) is someone who avoids misfortune without realizing it, and is often directionless.

I like being serious, but it's more fun to play the ridiculous characters. If I happen to break the system while I'm at it that's just part of the fun.

Yeah... Van was a fun monk. I'm fairly sure that I was stacking AC wrong though, but it would still be above 30. There are lots of ways to increase your AC without items, you just need to look for them.

Actually I would chalk up the system-breaking and bow-using to sadism, not silliness. :P Now, if you were being silly, you'd mod in a Shock touch spell that has a radius of several hundred feet and deals several thousand damage points, and then call it Dr. Thunder like I did in Oblivion. :D (I don't remember the exact numbers I used, I just remember I set the mana cost to like 1 point and put the range and damage up really high.)

So which book are these vows and such in, anyway? I've always wanted to play a monk character and I might want to give them a look. If Sky runs another campaign after this one ends (I hope so :D) I'll probably play monk or cleric next time...

Generally I try and break the system using what is normally allowed. ;D

Vows are in the Book of Exalted Deeds.

I can respect that. ^^^ Anyway, I'm going to go look and see if I have that book now; if so, I imagine I'll be doing a bit of reading.

I'm hoping I didn't just derail the Interaction Thread with a rather long post. Either way the Saint is no longer on the ship, and Tabbytha is no longer a cat all the time. The mechanics of Tabbytha don't really change, because she'd just prepare notes based on the location so that she doesn't have to follow everyone around all the time for Luke to get skill bonuses.

I hope no one minds my long and convoluted take on character development, because there should still be more ahead. Should I try and break up my longer posts to let people post and join in as well or is it fine as is?

Eh, not particularly. The only problem I have with it is the elimination of Saint; you could have just treated him like I do Toman and only bring him out if the party really needs another heavy hitter (my general set-up is probably going to be Rae and/or Anya). Anyway, I'll see about getting a proper reply up now.

My main problem with the Saint was that I only had one dimension of his personality. If I kept him he still wouldn't say a lot, and if he did it would be about justice or St. Cuthbert, which to him are the same side of a coin. He doesn't have any dreams, or real goals to strive for either. Unless I build a character's personality from the start I have a hard time building it up. For example, with Daero I'm trying to cover most aspects of his life, interests, fears, dreams, quirks, etc. so that when I start I know how he would react in most situations.

Besides, Daero hits just as hard as the Saint. Two-weapon fighting, reach and skirmish damage is a fun combo. Add levels in ranger to have favored enemies, like undead, that skirmish damage normally doesn't apply to and suddenly you can! Swift Hunter is a great feat. Also, the distracting attack ACF will help Tali sneak attack anyone I hit.

Explain to me how that makes him different than Toman. :P Joking aside, like I said earlier, I understand completely about wanting a character that's interesting to write for/play, and I'm not trying to come down harshly on you for it. It is a bit sad that with non-living characters there's really only one character arc they can have if they're not meant to remain static like HK-47, and that was already done best by Terminator 2 as far as I can see.

@ninja Dwarmin: Er... forgetting someone else who might need to know this thing you're working on? O.o *cough cough*

@SC: I was going to submit it to both you and fool, but he only sent me the PM. It might be weird to reference if you didn't know what I was doing. :P

Quote from: The Fool
Do you still think that the Tyrmitore tribe should have a rivalry, or some kind of hatred towards the Fir'Selyth? I have some time later today to write up something. I just need to know more about the Tyrmitore tribe, and maybe a suggestion on how the two tribes know each other if you already have an idea.

All right, quick brain storming. Add on/modify/suggest as you will SC.

Shared History

The Tyrmitore and the Fir'selyth have not often met-they share the same continent, though. And, incidents do happen, usually about every 300 or so years, when the wandering Clans meet by happenstance.

Such meetings are almost always unfriendly, but Elves do not make war upon other Elves without a very good reason. When they meet, the clans are usually willing to tolerate one other, and stay out of each others way. Both sides usually make a point of not lingering in the areas they share, though.

The worst conflict between them was almost 2000 years ago, enough that those who fought in it, are today the leaders and elders of both of the respective tribes.

To put it simply, it was a cold winter-the arena, a sheltered valley. And, both sides were hungry and desperate. All pretense of civility was tossed aside, and the Clans clashed in brief, brutal guerrilla combat-brief by Human terms anyway, only 60 years. No holds barred, no mercy given. Though the Fir'Selyth lost more tribesmates (whom they promptly consumed to survive the lean times), the Tyrmitore were forced to withdraw from the valley, and suffer the consequences of the long, deadly cold. It is a bitter memory, one that nests in the hearts of the older warriors.

A point of some contention is the captured Fir'Selyth-spared in battle out of mercy, and kept alive, most still died-but a good amount of the others came to the Tyrmitore way of thinking, and rejected their former clan. They still live today, numbering a small amount-but the symbolism is worth more than their numbers would suggest.

Nowadays, The Tyrmitore tend to have a guarded resentment of the Fir'Selyth-disparaging them as little more than ravening animals, while affording them a degree of respect for their obvious skill in battle. Still, the tension between them has never entirely departed.

Some Tyrmitore Clan Beliefs
The most ancient legends say the Tyrmitore clan was founded by a small collection of Elven families, scattered from their ancestral homelands by Marauding humans. They crossed the great ocean in ships they built together-even though they were foes before, shared hardship brought them together.

To this day, those bonds still hold strong.

The Tyrmitore clan believes strength is more than mere numbers-they believe the strength of kin, love and family can overcome whatever faces them. Tyrmitore children spend an inordinate amount of their own youth, not in combat training or lore seeking, but in blood bonding, strengthening their clan and family relationships.

They are encouraged to live for others, rather than themselves. Selflessness is a virtue-and, it's not kept just to them. The Tyrmitore tend to be more outgoing and open to other people than some Tribal Elves, eager for new experiences and new people.

They don't even strictly hold to Elven membership-about 5% of the clan is made of disparate Tribal Humans, Lizardfolk, Centaurs and Catfolk-and they are accepted as full blood clan brothers and sisters, with no reservations. The Tyrmitore clan is known for it's habit of converting even prisoners of war into loyal clan mates-what better way to defeat an enemy than to make him a friend?

One of the clan is rarely afforded a choice of what they will become. Kanes (Warriors) are usually chosen from birth, by the strength of the child's eyes, when first opened-they are usually men, but not always. Wilde's and Calon's (Shamans and Druids) are in turn, often Females, and tend to be chosen afterwards by the Elders. The only decision one usually makes, is to fight or not. The Tyrmitore clan believes bakers, cooks and craftselves are just as important as Rangers and Barbarians...though, everyone is encouraged to have at least some war skill. There traditional enemies are Orcs and Undead invading from neighboring islands, as well as Aberrant creatures.

In battle, the Tyrmitore clan strikes first, and strikes fast. Riding a high of shared bloodlust, clan brotherhood, and battle lust they strike from the forests and tree tops from cleverly placed ambushes, laughing loudly and mocking their foes even as they cut them down. They are not overly aggressive, though, and fleeing enemies are usually allowed to flee.

In death, the words "Amatae sees you now", are usually spoken to the deceased-for, she is their patron Goddess-though, the Clan itself is not overly religious, and has few actual Clerics. The body is often committed to flame, over open air is possible.

I'll write up some of the Fir'Selyth clan beliefs when I get back from university. The two tribes are very different from what I can see.

I have one problem with the shared history: The Fir'Selyth are always aberrants in some form, and they take pride in their mutations and thank the Patient One for them. They wouldn't give up their religion if they change clans, and I'm not sure how others would react to someone worshiping a god of darkness and corruption. I would really not expect them to be fully integrated into any other tribe.

@Fool: Exactly why it could be a point of contention. :P

Your clan would view them as the blackest traitors from Hell, or even deny they exist. My clan would hold them up as an ideal, that we accept pretty much anyone, and that anyone can adopt our ways-that anyone can change.

Edit: Now, to be fair, full acceptance is...a bit of a stretch. My lore is of course, a completely idealized version of the the Clan history. heh.
