Shields are basically regenerating HP (for Protoss). I think, anyways.

They are. They regen faster than zerg regen health but only when not under attack.

You are correct, shields are basically health, but shields regen while most units health doesn't. Zergs are the only ones where most of their units can regen health, so they do not get shields. Shields will absorb all damage until they are destroyed then all damage goes to HP.

On another note: My laptop has broken, so updates will be quite a bit slower maybe one every week, or two when I can get access to another computer

Yep I re-balance, and set up the skill/evo tree for every custom class, or not so as to make it as close to fair as I can.
