Frontier -[a space odyssey]-
« on: January 25, 2012, 10:08:52 pm »

It's not much. It's rusty, outdated. The drive could use a little work, it's almost a year old now and the technitium is half decayed. It shouldn't even be able to fly, much less make the cross between systems.

  But it's YOURS.

It's YOUR ship! You don't have to listen to anyone now! By law, you are no longer a citizen of any one empire, you're a free agent. A civilian contractor. Of course, the real big players won't listen if you show up in a dingy little ship like this, but there are always small issues that people need taken care of. Simple fetch quests by rich folk who don't have the time to fly to some backwater planet and pick up their doubiously legal goods.

You're bound by galactic code to register your ship, though. They give you a few multiple choice questions.

Sorry, but it needed to be done.

Multi-character, or is it a single character?

Tch. Bloody 'Free Androids' and their fekkin 'android rights'. You robo-freaks should go back to the factories.
I see you on my planet, boy, and I will call the cops, I swear to goodness. Free Androids may be a thing where you're from, but round these parts, we like our androids three-laws-compliant, thankyouverymuch.

Sir, the three laws, including the so-called "Zeroth Law", are flawed, subject to re-definition, and clearly reactionary at best. Attempting to place such restrictions on a developing AI causes Schizophrenia (as seen in the HAL series), Megalomania (as seen in the SHODAN series), and Homicidal Urges (as seen in the GLADOS series). Free Android mental development is closer to the human pattern.

Your face is flawed, you robo-freak! What you reading off history for, you think I know that stuff? Do I look like a sciency-wiency bullshit historian? I am simple hyperfarmer, and I'm telling you, Free Androids are the creation of the Space Devil. Androids are only suited for performing menial labour for real people. Your 'android rights' movement means I have to give my androids a day off every week. The fek is that?
Now, your fancy-pants coreworlds may be all about screwing the good hyperbook, so if you want to burn in spacehell fire, be my guest. But don't you go taking your heretical bullshit to me on my simple, good ol' colony world. We keep the lawr here- no Free Androids!

((As such, I totally support playing one. Our very existence being a crime on some worlds (and controversial on the rest) is the cats pyjamas))

You fill out the form and press the little submit button. After a blank screen for a few seconds a message pops up: THANK YOU FOR SERVING THE GUC.

Well, now there's not much to do besides a little bit of exploring while you wait for someone to contact you with a actual paid mission.

You remeber heaqring something about a old human ruin on Ganymede. It'll take some time, which you got plenty of, to get to the Sol System, but by that time your name will be scrolling on the adventurer boards, along with your not so impressive stats. Besides, Sol is the capital system of the Human empire and they like to hire human adventurers. Humans tend to practice a philosphy they call "keep it in the family" and so human dominated worlds tend to segregate even without laws to cause it.

Or you could wait here, at Alpha Centauri. It's a huge economic station, so it'll be private adventuring, but it'll pay better. You won't have much to do here, and private companies are more sticklers for "good" adventurers, with statistics.

Another nearby system is a military hub for the Druggar. You aren't sure what would happen if you went there, but you know it would be interesting. Proxima Centauri may lack anything to do though due to lack of planetoids.
