Chapter 3: Coming soon
PPoA has finally come to fruition and one hundred and twenty Uesugi Warrior Monks have assembled outside our capital, ready to take the fight to the Hawayana-kemachu about to siege our castle.
Kenshan, seeing a nice opportunity to gain glory, decided to take all of the troops stationed in the capital, and move towards the endangered castle. While he was a originally a bit worried about possible letters sneaking in while on the road, his VIBMCHP assured him that with his latest design, the ALMBx1548-3, the latest in Anti-Letter Mobile Bunker technology, there is no way any letter could reach him.
In the meanwhile, Chengesaysen, a wandering monk has snuck into the enemy camp, and then, without alerting any of the guards, quietly converted half the army to our faith. He did this by first finding a shrubbery, then cutting down the largest tree in the woods with a herring. Using the shrubbery, he set a fire and burned the largest tree to form with his super-duper awe-inducing chi-zen-shinto-buddhist skills and created a podium. After this, he stood on it, and shouted at the top of his lungs the following grand speech:
"Your army sucks ass, Heyamichiganians, you'll never win!" Obviously deeply affected by such a quiet-but-powerful display of wisdom, most enemy soldiers lost their will to fight. Some their will to live, after witnessing such levels of stupidity as is found in their comrades.
Also in the meanwhile, Man-genmun, leaving the crippled yari ashigaru unit and another one behind, embarked with his fleet to carry out what is most likely a suicide assault on the enemy castle of NATO. While our younger hero is not well known for his heroism, it is quite important to realise he was unaware his plan is likely to end in his death. As the saying goes, Uesugi take stupidity to a whole new level, but never underestimate their stubborn courage!
After six months of messing around, he finally gets to moving around and destroys an enemy yari ashigaru in the woods, then proceeds to capture Note. Another important thing to note is that during this time, the enemy tried to mimick our stupidity by not attacking, but simply choosing to reinforce their army one troop every season, thus they still did not move and Kenchung could reach our endangered castle in time. In time for what, some may ask, and to those I have but one reply: No idea.
After some serious contemplating - Ah, who am I even kidding? After a good round of sake, or two or three, and some persuasion by Chengetchun, our respectable (drinker) Daimyo decides to attack the enemy army over the river, hoping to catch them unaware with this stupid act.
Good shinto-god in shinto-heaven! Turns out holding predictable speeches before a battle is also his favourite thing to do, and he even says the very same thing his brother did! But to be fair, at least he realises the tactical situation of having to cross a bridge.
There are two ways across the river, a bridge too thin to be worth building, and a shallow ford.
Ken-chan organises his troops into two different groups. The first one, which he himself accompanies, is made up of two yari ashigarus and three bow ashigarus. They will head for the bridge, and force a crossing under the cover of our superior archers.
The second group, led by the fruits of PPoA, contains a veteran yari ashigaru, a veteran bow ashigaru, and two additional yaris and one more bow troop. They will head for the ford, make the crossing then attack the enemy army in the side, or the back. That will depend on the tactical situation.
It would appear the enemy is not interested in the river, and tries to hold a few puny trees, hoping to atleast partially conceal their army from our scouts. The troops we can see are hungry and missing a few soldiers after the winter.
The second group reaches the ford without trouble and is preparing for the crossing. At the same time, the enemy force, apparently led by two generals, decides that the river is actually important for them. They divide their army, sending one half to the bridge, and defend their flank in the direction of the ford with the other.
A few fanatic yari ashigarus and one of the enemy generals charge across the bridge, only to be relentlessly slaughtered by our own troops. Those few that do reach our end while under constant fire from three hundred and sixty archers are quickly killed by our yari ashigarus, inspired by Kenmun. Their general falls, and their own bow ashigarus are losing many men.
Realising the grave situation they are in, the enemy forces try to break out in the direction of the ford, only to run into our army again. After a short exchange of arrows, our troops encircle theirs and the warrior monks make short work of the enemy. What's left of their force flees madly in the general direction of the small forest.
Their bow ashigaru near the bridge are finally giving up, Kanman orders a unit of yari ashigarus across the bridge, where they meet the second desperate enemy general. He is also killed, and the battle is a shining victory for Uesugi forces.
