Goblins at peace?
« on: January 24, 2012, 01:55:21 pm »

I fended off a half dozen sieges, then nothing for the last couple of years.  So I decided to check the civ screen and make sure I hadn't wiped out every single gobbo.  It lists them at Peace with me?  Did they get so scared that they surrendered?  They still have a "law-giver" and I have no agreements with this land.  I want my sieges back dammit.

Piss off humans!

It's treated as completely normal because this is Dwarf Fortress.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with a wall of flames, only to later realize that you're surrounded by a wall of flames.
There's nothing that can't be solved by hurling fifteen roc birds at it.

See if they'll set up trade with you. You might get to have dwarf nail earrings now.

Is it possible to somehow exploit being at peace with the goblins? I am, at the moment, at peace with them, and they've only sent a couple of snatchers. I heard you could get goblin caravans, for example.

I can't do a thing to piss off the humans or the elves.  They just love us.  I wouldn't mind getting a goblin caravan for once.  Even if just for the uniqueness value and to see what they'd bring me.  My dorfs are just so dang lovable that even the Reptileman/woman in the caverns are friendly after they killed a couple forgotten beasts for me.

I was hoping the whole "Peace" thing was just a weird bug and I could still count on getting some more sieges or something later on.  (I need something to throw in the cat pit...)

It seems like the filthy troggs are the only things willing to attack me anymore.  And they're no fun.  They break too easily.

Tried deliberately training a berserk army?

I mean, personally I feel like danger room training isn't an exploit if you're only making your enemies legendary Dwarf butcherers.

Speak for yourself. The goblins' main export to my fort is terror, and our main export to them is vengeance. (Seriously, this is on the civ screen)

Goblins will be listed as "at peace" on the civ screen if they aren't actively sending attacks after you at the time. Give it a while and they'll eventually start harassing you again as long as they have leaders.

Yeah I can confirm that goblins "at peace" will eventually send sieges. To piss off humans kill a diplomat or a caravan, a few years later they will do a human siege. It is a bit different that goblin siege, in that it seems more like camping.
