I just stumbled across this site today...

http://indiegameforum.de/forumdisplay.php?3-Dwarf-Fortress

Looks like DF has quite a few fans in German. Hallo!

I'm learning German at the moment, and this looks like it will provide me with lots of enjoyable reading. ^^

I'm making a game called "Innkeep!", where you run an inn set in a low-fantasy world and try to lighten your guests pockets. Forum topic here.

I think DF has fans in every country and language :D

I have created the Forum about one year ago, it is also accessable over http://www.dwarffortressforum.de.
Since then, the interest of the users has extended to common indie games and so i have extended the forum to an indiegameforum ;).

Makes sense, seeing as Dwarves are from Germanic mythology :P.

My voice acting portfolio.
Centration. Similar to Spacestation 13, but in 3D and first-person. Sounds damn awesome.
NanoTrasen Exploratory Team: SS13 in DF.

One of the first friends I made through the Bay12 forums is German, so it's not that surprising. I'd assume DF fans would be more or less all over the world!
As a footnote, I'm also interested in learning German, and almost a year of talking to em's taught me "pflanzen".

Judging by their accents, I'd always guessed Scottish.

And to think this is all before Toady put in language support.

I still can barely imagine playing a game where I can't read the vast majority of what is going on. Even IF modders could rename monsters and their bodyparts and items.

You know.. there is a myth that if you try really hard, it is possible to learn a new language! personally i think this is just esoteric and parascientific bullshit but who knows..  ;)

English is a mandatory thing in German schools only the higher echelons need a 3rd language.

Btw. Dwarfes are a part of the Indo-german mytholgy thus they are at home in Europe as whole not just single countries.

Little boy? Hey no need to be rude.
I am German. How many languages I speak fluently? That's none of your business.  ;)
Most people I know are able to speak english very fluently, in fact that's no big deal here in Germany.

Technically, from Norse mythology :|

Dwarves come in varieties of races, and I've never ended up with viking dorfs or scottish dorfs :(
