I like the general strategy we are employing with a defensive position:
- Using Krlnkir Yrlvnt as magical protection/last resort
- Magic Users > Archers > King > Others
- Tele-bribing the mercenary attachments of the opponents
- Digging small trenches to prevent an easy flank from cavalry and to slow attacks in general
- Collapsing tunnels strategically
I have a suggestion about the use of the Titaneghoul:
The Titaneghoul is a large morale-killer, attacking anything around it. Since the Titaneghoul will be a big target of their ranged/magical units we could try to have it concealed in a tunnel where the enemy should be coming. The ideal time to "release the kraken" would be right when the initial charge of the King's army has been repulsed and skirmishing begins, creating a large "shock & awe" effect when a giant monstrosity bursts out of the ground behind enemy lines and can easily close the distance between any archers or mages what would be so unlucky to be the first victims.
I'll need to think a bit about taking the offensive to the King...
Regarding some of UR's concerns:
Also, why not wires
Because wire is invented way later then gunpowder? No, Jewelry doesn't count, I am talking about combat usage and mass producing.
We can substitute barbed wire for a more setting-appropriate device like Caltrops or Punji Sticks. It isn't important what we actually use, but the idea is of hampering the opponent's ability to charge/approach us is important, and will give us more favorable engagements against semi-even forces.
the strenght of cavalry is charge impact, which is nicely given by M*Vē. Speed is more important than mass (armour). But it does count, yes.
And how their M*Vē will help against Titaneghoul?
The M*Vē is not the only thing about the charging knights, all of that force will be focused at the sharp tip of a lance. A lance may not seem like a big concern but:
...
In the central torso, seven of the heads are pulled apart; twisted, merged. The brain is given some measure of demonic intelligence, overcoming its insanity, allowing it to control itself- and hopefully the twenty-one other brains as well.
...
If one lucky lance is placed at the right spot, it will likely have enough force to pierce the main brain, leaving the Titaneghoul dead or unable to control the multiple minds that are encased in it's horrific form, so it's important that the Titaneghoul is not used as a charge-stopper.
