We're talking about a town of 2000+ people. Say you're a guard, and you see 4 or 5 children come running up to the gate in the middle of the afternoon, laughing and talking together, what are you going to think?

"Oh, those must be a bunch of possessed demon-worshippers, better capture them and call the priests!"

or

"Geez, those parents shouldn't let their kids play outside the town with arsonists around! Oh well, maybe they snuck out. No laws against it, anyhow."

??

At any rate, they'll be easier to infiltrate with than regular cultists, because any strange behavior is much more likely to be ignored as 'kids playing games'.

At any rate, they'll be easier to infiltrate with than regular cultists, because any strange behavior is much more likely to be ignored as 'kids playing games'.

This sounds like a good idea, the child cultists in conjunction with our mental influence, should be enough to ensnare most of Akataki's youth. Controlling Their children will give us more future followers, and give us leverage over the child's family.

Also, only one month until we can meet our little bundle of doom and destruction!

Naming
Merged ghoul thing: Baneghoul.
Axe: Barrsdoom


A quiet night in Sunset Village. The wind blows softly through the trees, the pattern of moonlight shifting as the leaves rustle. Then, all through the village, the sound of a lot of people quietly opening doors. Children come out of their homes, carrying bundles of food and firewood. They all run out into the woods upon some unknown mission. One accidentally slams a door, waking his parents. They quickly discover that their child is missing and go out to look for him. Soon more parents are woken, and within minutes the entire village is up- but that is when the attack starts. Rising from the darkness, a huge, lumbering Baneghoul screams at the villagers, each head shouting something slightly different, creating an unharmonious cacophony of terror. The villagers scream and flee in the opposite direction, but there rises another Baneghoul, more repulsive than the last. The villagers scatter. Some return to their houses and lock the doors, some try to flee the village another way. Some even try to run around the baneghouls, thinking themselves more agile than the clumsy beasts. But having seven heads has its advantages; the baneghouls spot the runners and grab them easily, raising them up to their main head and biting their heads off, before ripping them to pieces and distributing the flesh amongst the heads. Smaller arms reach greedily from the flesh around the heads to hold the meat and stuff it into the controlling head's mouth.
The villagers who try to flee the village find their every path blocked by flaming amberärshs, who snarl and spit fire at them, driving them back into the center of the village. Some turn and fight; these the amberärshs gang up on, and tear to pieces.
The village priest tries to organize people; calling for them to grab improvised weapons from the blacksmith or their homes, and fight off the invaders. A cloud of spectres bears down upon him, and carry him off into the night, laughing madly.
Then the Baneghouls get aggressive. They advance towards the crowd, swinging their arms, bowling people over like so many dominoes, eating some, leaving others stunned on the ground. The spectres return, the priest no longer with them, and find those villagers cowering in their houses and direct the baneghouls to them. The beasts tear through the wooden walls of the houses like paper, and pull out the villagers cowering within, throwing them on the ever-growing pile of villagers who figure the best plan is probably to stay down and hope they go away. The amberärshs advance as well, setting fire to the houses on the outskirts, driving anyone hiding within to the village center, then closing in for the next ring of houses. Soon, all the villagers are either dead, or hemmed in on the village square by baneghouls and burning houses.
And then their dark lord appears. He commands the villagers stand in neat rows, to which they immediately comply. He picks out the old and weak, and drawing on the death and destruction around him, merges them into a new baneghoul, delighting in the screams of the victims as their flesh melts and their bones shift violently, before their brains become ghoul-like and their screams of pain become screams of irritation and hunger. The oldest, weakest, and dead villagers he grants to the baneghouls, and all three begin feasting upon them. The tastiest-looking ones he picks up and eats himself.
To the rest, he whispers words in the tongue of demons. As the villagers descend into madness, he binds them in magical coils, and commands them leave the village and join his horde. Though not fully enslaved, their minds are sufficiently broken that they cannot help but comply. The enslavement will be performed in peace and quiet, when there's no rush.
With an almost dismissive air of finality, he raises a few of the villages dogs.


Meanwhile, at the mines: Ghouls grow ever more numerous. The two bands of 'sane' humans have lost all pretence of civility, and engage in ambushes against the other side not just for food, but for sport. The Ghouls and spectres prey on all equally. Eventually, the last of the 'sane' humans wakes up one day and doesn't bother to think, but just starts eating the corpse of her brother, which has tasted especially fine recently.
Your cultists hold off on opening the mines until they have to, though. At the moment, it is full of ghouls and spectres, who are very aggressive. There's about a dozen ghouls in there, and for the moment, they have plenty of food.

You have acquired some slaves and a new baneghoul from raiding a village near Akataki. You should
-Attack Akataki
-Use a combination of corruption and brute force to capture the town
-Return to Barrspring; open the mine, grab some ore, and use it to arm the slaves
-Spend more than two weeks down here and miss your daughter's birth

  The Church of the Flames of Madness. Formerly Dolnar Asylum, HQ of Barrtal monster hunters.
    Mighty Walls (50). Moat (5, slows attackers). Weak Wards (12). Evil Stones (cause illusions and madness to attackers, also act as a second set of Weak Wards(10)). Rampant Spectres (cause madness to attackers. May randomly attack occupants (friend or foe))
    Sacrificial Chamber: An excellent location for worship and sacrifice.
    Workshops: A large forge and a series of workshops allow cultists to refine resources much more efficiently. Would be more useful with a steady supply of raw materials, but lets the cultists repurpose, recycle, and repair enough to generate a small amount of resources.
    Library: A (slightly empty) library and series of studies allow cultists to learn the arts of magic. Contains scrolls on the creation of Amberärshs.
    Source of Evil: This place has a long history, and much of it unpleasant. The reserves of evil seem nearly bottomless. It has built up to such a level that it seems to generate evil on its own (in small amounts). This makes it an excellent place for summoning or necromancy.

  Barrspring. Iron mining village in the eastern mountains.
    Hard to get to. Stone Wall (20). Treacherous Terrain (defensive bonuses)
    Barrspring Iron Mines: Renowned as a source of high-quality iron, these mines could easily provide enough ore to keep the furnace of the Forge-Temple busy. The mines are an evil place now; dark power fills the air, and infects the ore. It is currently inhabited by a nest of wild ghouls and a host of wild spectres.
    Forge-Temple: An unholy place for worship and forging. A great furnace which takes live sacrifices as fuel, feeding liquid metal to four dark forges. Would produce vast amount of resources (especially weaponry), but requires ore, sacrifices, and workers.

I know demons aren't exactly feeling creatures, and I'm a terrible person myself and probably can not compare, but I can't help but feel... caring about the daughter, not so much the girl though. Maybe we should start trying to convert some people. I don't know but I do know that having more Slaves than Followers will probably lead to something bad. We should try and whittle a few people from the town. Whisper madness into their ears, make them murder their families before coming to us. We are going to need serious control here, but I think if we whittle every so often, they will be cautious, but not aggressive. What we need to do is be able to be their for the child not just for my own caring but to see what use she has as well.

Well, we know she'll have some talent at magic and forging.


I'm sort of inclined to head our cult toward viewing children as the closest to the Tall Man, both because it was through them that we rose, because it would be extra screwed up, and because I want to shy away from child sacrifice, both for personal and practical reasons. That sort of 'childish simplicity' is also a rather good fit for what we are: something between Chaotic Evil and Neutral Evil. Heck, if we play our cards right, we might end up with a proper Religion of Evil.

I approve. After all, anyone who's had to deal with toddlers knows that their default alignment in Neutral Evil, shading towards Chaotic.

I like this plan. I feel (as un-demonly as this may be), that we should be present for our daughter's birth.

I'm not entirely certain if we should recruit the ghouls in the mine, because we said that they all would perish. I am not entirely against this idea since any addition to our forces is welcome.

I am a big fan of creating the Eyes of the Tall Man. Knowledge is power, and demons love power!

I also think that the sacrifice of children (exept in rare circumstance) should be taboo, because children are both easily influenced and give a great "return on investment" over time.

They HAVE perished. The people they were are dead, drowned by madness and hunger.

this +1

also

1) teach both branches of our cult the creation of Baneghouls. (CFM and Barrspring)

2) have our cult (not ourselves) create Baneghouls from the ghouls in the mine.

3) Instead of armoring the Baneghouls have our cult preform a ritual to Fuse the mine shades into empty Armor to make Warshades. (normal solders stand NO chance of even harming something thats just armor without a body)

4) Arm both Baneghouls and Warshades with weapons.

5) Arm and Armor some slaves as footsolders. (thinking chainmail and pikes/swords/axes and a wood buckler.)

I doubt making child sacrifice a Law is necessary or even a good Idea. their may come a time when such a sacrifice is needed for our goals, but that time is not not (Would rather not impose such limits unless we HAVE to.)

oh and please add Baneghouls to the glossary when you get a chance.
