Adoption would be the kinder option. Better to play the genetic lotto than know that the kid would have to deal with my genes.

I'd like to have some kids sometime in my late 20's or early 30's. I can't think about not having someone to carry on my legacy.

Of course, with the world being an already hard place to live in, I will most likely limit my children to 1 or 2.

I don't want children.

My mom owned a day care out of her house and their were always children of all ages in the house for the first 14 years of my life. This sucked all of my will to have any children of my own. Even now I find children annoying.

Overpopulation isn't going to be stopped by a bunch of people deciding to have 0 kids instead of the standard 1-3 that we have in America; something would have to change socially in places where 7-12 children is standard. I want to have children, personally, and at least two. I have friends who are only children, and it doesn't sound fun. Probably not more than 4, though.

I want kids, lots of kids, minimum of five children. I don't know why, but for quite a long time I just wanted to grow up to be a dad. Some of you know I already have a son, and he made me extremely happy, and filling a gap I have had for quite awhile, and some of you also know he was taken from me.

One of the most painful things.

I think that our friend Randall Munroe has a very interesting (and realistic) take on kids.

I want kids, but not for a long time. One of my friends just got married a while ago, and his wife is preggers after just a few months. He's 20, she's 21, and they're both working minimum-wage jobs...

This is the kind of situation I have nightmares about. I want to have kids, but not until I graduate from pharmacy school and have a six-figure income... and have a few years to roll in the money.

I want 3 or 4 kids myself. Apparently I've got to make up for all the rest of you slackers. Also, don't tell my wife - she'll kill me if she finds out I've been slipping her those fertility drugs and praying for triplets...

indeed, at the current rate the population of most of the western world is stabilizing is it not?

That being said i don't see myself as a having kids person. maybe that will change as i get older, but i really couldn't see myself having kids.

Aye, in most of the industrialized world the children-per-woman rate is between 1.5 and 2.5.

At my expected income, the approximate cost of raising a child is ~$250k. Between that, time costs, and a career choice in which relocation will be frequent, opportunity costs are too high. Nor do I particularly like children.

....You are joking, right? Because some people really do that sort of thing.

Yeah, I'm also on the "I hope to hell you're joking" wagon.  Because seriously, ew.

I am completely and 100% joking. That would be an absolutely terrible thing to do.

Truthfully, kid-having is still 3 or 4 years out for us.

Dude, try to spread out the kids a bit. Three at once....... well don't blame me if  your wife finds out later and stares at you maliciously while you are in bed, kids are still stressful and taking care of any above 2 at the same time is hell.
