I really wish bronies didn't have a pathological need to seek recognition from everyone else. I really wouldn't care then. But it seems like every MLP fan has throw it out there in the hopes of finding other bronies, even though they have message boards, video games and an entire fan culture.

Ever had that friend who really likes something, and refuses to admit it's possible someone doesn't like it, and therefore refuses to ever shut up about it? Yeah. That's bronies.

TBH it's probably a lot like MAGGGMMMAAAA and DF for people who don't like DF. Eventually, they just get sick of hearing about and start getting hostile.

I never understood all this pony stuff.. Maybe someone wants to explain this madness to me? :D

In short terms.

Good show + /co/ = One of the scariest and best fanbases to start with. It grew from there.
Shit and i thought /co/ was all about comics and stuff and not about gay ponies.  :o

Negative attention from everyone else is something very few really do want. Problem is, you'll get those few, and you'll end up with the majority being judged by those very few.

This is why I don't go out of my way to advertise that I'm a brony.  No pony avatar, no making pony threads (except the community fort, but that's kinda different, kinda), no bringing ponies into random discussions.  Except to my little brother in person, because it's funny to see what his reaction is.  But I've laid off a lot on that, because I know it gets old quick and it's kind of lost its fun.

I totally understand why people hate that kind of crap.  I hate it when others do this for fandoms I don't like.  It actually feels very strange to be on this side of the fence for once... but I try to not make the problem worse.

Indeed, in some places its gotten to a old-fashened Sonic style foolishness. No one likes a bunch of people going in and acting like there the new kings of the internet, let alown a bunch of people in a fandom about a subject that looks very, very weird to a outsider.

Whats worse is that there are people thats exactly like this quote is discribing in the fandom. True, there are people like this in every fandom ever, but it just so happens that the bronies who do it are spotlighted because they are, well, bronies.

I don't really have a problem with bronies per se, since I haven't dealt with really any of the super-vocal ones.  It's more that I don't like it being discussed here, because I have absolutely zero interest in the show, and it has absolutely zero relevance to Dwarf Fortress in and of itself.

I don't have an issue with the mod (the whole point of modding the vanilla game is to make it the game you want, and if you want ponies instead of dwarves who am I to call that sillier than the sci-fi or post apocalyptic ones?), just don't want to hear about it when I'm talking about the game.

As for the community story forts, I'm on the fence about whether pony forts should be there or not.

For me, it's a combination of that (the more irritating fans who make the bizarre assumption that everyone wants to hear about it all of the time), and the fact that it's just so strong and prevalent a fandom. I will never understand why people's identities can revolve around a single kids' cartoon so much, and I also get sort of creeped out by the fact that I can't go anywhere on the Internet without being exposed to it. You'd think a new religion had popped up or something. There's just something so strange and perplexing about it all.

This is how I feel on the subject basically. Make a mod, fine. Make a community fort based on the fort, fair enough. Those places are completely acceptable places to discuss ponies within the forum's rules. The only reason there is a ban on pony threads in the lower forums is because there was some Meatgod-esque discussion going on.

Once again, there's a forum for bay12's pony discussion.

And as for these forums, remember talking about pony fans is no less banned than any other pony discussion. It is, however, fine on those forums. Just expect to defend your opinions. That's assuming, of course, you want an actual discussion, and not wanting to blow off steam and whine.

Flame wars too easily erupt here when misinformation is being spread and can't be corrected because "pony discussion is banned." If you have anything to say that's not directly related to bay 12's games, take it to the other forum.

Do not expect people with absolutely no interest in My Little Ponies to register on a brony forum just to talk about how bronies act in the context of this forum. That's a little strange.

Also: Please don't treat your (or whoever's) brony forum as some sort of "official bay12games FiM forum". It's not. Not all of us have a fond opinion of the place or feel like being there. It's separate from this place in tone, style, rules, and moderation, regardless of the fact that its userbase largely comes from here.

Talking about how bronies act in the context of this forum is quite explicitly banned, because I honestly can't think of anything related to that except past drama. And the currently active mods and community forts, I suppose, but that discussion should be regulated to those threads. Not here.

What, pray tell, DO you want to talk about? It better not just be how people are annoying, because there's a nice shiny report button for that. Any real discussion really is better suited for over there, whether you're a fan or not.

As for the other forum's "officialness," it's entirely unofficial. That a large portion (100%) comes from these forums is very relevant, though. It's quite related to these forums, most notably it is where you should direct any discussion not allowed here.

I suspect you just want to disassociate yourself from ponies in general. Let me just say, anyone who associates you with something (doesn't matter if it's ponies or anything else) without consulting you first is a douchebag and not worth your time. Registering for that forum will not irrevocably tarnish your soul, either. Fears of association are unfounded, because no one's going to assume you're a brony unless they're a jerk, and thus it's a great way to spot jerks and avoid them.

Long story short, if you have anything worthwhile to say, there's a forum for that. If you don't have anything worthwhile to say, well, don't say it.

Likewise, I even gave it two more episodes and still didn't get it. I really badly wanted to like it but alas!

Sure as their alcoholism, all dwarves are bronies. It's embedded deep within their cultural consciousness and they cannot deny it.
