We would probably have diseases and hostile encounters with other survivors.  Maybe someone falls off a watchtower.  Also, immediate amputation of an infected limb has a 10% success rate! Besides, we probably don't have any zombrex around to heal us if we go down other zombie paths.

As you can tell, I'm very passionate about my zombies.

Note: We can die by other diseases other than zombies if the GM permits. That's why the doctor is so important, and why I yelled it out.

Post-apocalyptic world = horrid hygiene.

Does the fort have any comfort rooms by the way?  :P

Unless this is not going on the realism scale.

Perhaps we could mix a bit, so that we are all immune to the infection ourself (and the zombies are all classic Romero/ZSG slow shamblers) so that a single fluid contact doesn't mean character death? While avoiding contact entirely could be interesting, it would only be fun to play like that if there was a potential alternative short of reanimation or near-instant amputation. Maybe a treatment where an infected human needs to take a dose once every 20 turns or something, or they'll begin to turn over the course of a day or so, with the potential of developing/finding a cure somehow.

True. Are we going to have to hunt down lime and shovels and make sure our latrine is as far as possible from our crops (if any)?

True, there are many ways that we can go about the whole infection thing, though I guess it's up to Coolness.

A garden would be nice, especially if I could grow medicinal herbs. Something tells me that real drugs are going to be hard to come by.

I wonder, though, how Coolness would implement other players in game if other people are willing to join. A trade caravan, a roving band of nomads, or the (cliche maybe) Military?

Setting is in the U.S.A. right? From where I am, West means a lot of things from the Greenwich Meridian.

Yeah, apparently this game takes place in California. I had the same question, since The West can be taken to mean "anything west of the Middle East" in some cases.

...
then let's start off finding food or trying to till our own on the land in the fort.

And begin making renewable power sources, like solar panels and the like. Although, from our materials, I'd doubt we'll have any access to technology unless the fort has anything that helped it survive this long.

...

Tilling the land and setting up solar panels are all long term goals, Right now we have 3 days worth of food, and two days worth of water (three if you count the booze) we need the basics of life, and we need them fast.

we can last longer without food than we can without water, so water should have priority.

we need to build a water filtration/pasturisation device. and we need to scavenge for food. when we have a sufficient buffer of food, and a reliable source of water we can start thinking of sustainability. Right now, we need to focus on feeding ourselves and making it trough the nights.

edit: atleast we got a master sushi chef ;)

I think water and if necessary in this game some kind of filtration device are the main priority. Also since fishing the only food gathering skill I am assuming it will be the major way to acquire food apart from scavenging meaning that we'd really be killing two birds with one stone by searching for some kind of lake/stream ect.

We'll need to be sure the water is potable, as well. That means either finding bottled/bagged/cartoned water, or finding a purifier or iodine tablets.

Good point about the water. We need to find a water source first. We don't need iodine tablets though; all we need to do is boil the water to kill off any nasty things.

That presupposes a source of fuel. At the moment, we have the barricading supplies, which we don't want to burn, the material of the fort (same deal), and the remaining gasoline in the truck, which wouldn't be practical, and which we probably don't want to burn anyway. That means that we'll need to send people out to find firewood, coal, or kerosene, or something else. Obviously we'll need to do this anyway for cooking purposes, but if we do run across iodine tablets, they'll be much better for getting more potable water while in the field because we won't always be able to stop and boil water when we find it.

if we cant get our hands on firewood I'd be more than willing to burn construction material if it means not dying from dehydration or contaminated water.

but lets hope we can collect firewood. but if it comes to it I'd burn the fort itself before dying from dehydration.

First off, We are in California and the zombies are walking dead. Second off, You will be able to make firewood from trees you will later find. Third, Im gonna be taking the what you guys are going to do update soon, but i pretty much know you guys are gonna go inside the fort first, so ill do that and give you the basic surroundings inside. Doing it now.  :D

Edit: Done!

Also, before i forget, This is not L4D style, one bite and you turn. Not instantly though, you have 2 turns befor you change, giving you enough time to get away from the others or help barricade. Just so you guys know.

Damn. No hope for saving victims then  :-\

Well, I say that the first thing we need to do is clear the HQ building. If there's zed hiding in there, we need to take care of them now, not when they break out in the middle of the night.
