errr... methinks you mean aegisgaming.org instead of aegisgaming.com in the first part.

Who shall take the position of the mountainking/queen?

A mountainhome led by a queen, interesting.

Volg's already got that bit covered. FYI, the server's capped at 30 people.

Quote
1. Griefing
1.1 - Griefing is illegal - Breaking of other players placed blocks
1.2 - Overloading a reactor for the purpose of doing damage is ILLEGAL!
1.3 - TNT Cannons illegal

2.  Raiding
2.1 - You can take the contents of any chest/machine you can access without griefing
2.2 -  Logging out while in Enemy territory is Not Allowed ( This will be treated as combat logging)
2.3 - Glitching/Exploiting through walls is Not Allowed
2.4 - No explosives can be used for entry
2.5 - Frames are Not to be used in raids(pulling away walls)
2.6 - No placing levers, buttons, etc. to open doors

So really, it's a no-PVP server except for infantry combat (and even that will be just building a dirt wall to hide behind).
Even better, you can brick an enemy up with sand blocks or whatever and get him banned for 'grief' when he breaks one.

It's a pretty small, tight-knit server though. Not a whole lot of people play on it, and it's capped at 30. Regularly hits 20.

Up to you guys, but Volg misses y'all.

I guess it's tempting.
I just really wish there was a server for the invasion where we could actually use our enginuity.
I mean, I remember the discussion on getting Armour/Airship assets to our army when Redpower frames were released.

I made a pretty cool (2DOF) fighting vehicle too. Got them down to 9*9 in footprint -- 7*7 if you really push it -- with a (manned) gun deck on top. Used Railcraft launcher rails and TNT carts as guns. The 9*9 had automatic dispensers (.4 seconds repeat I think) for firecharge/arrow bombardment too.

I just feel sad when people take the easy way out and literally define "breaking player-placed blocks" as "grief" (and even assume everyone uses that too), as well as instituting loads of big vague rules that basically boil down to "combat can only take place by melee combat in neuteral territory: beware teh X-TREEM PVP!"
Modpacks like Volts/etc. are getting more and more ballanced and tuned for technological combat, and it could be really fun to see full team-build-and-fight in an industrialized setting. Obviously rules are necessary, but the stupid heavyhandedness of almost all Minecraft servers is almost as depressing as the rabid frothing over the fake "moddder's rights". Licences on Minecraft mods are simply impossible. Trying to pretend they are valid beyond a simple "(c) John Doe, CREDIT ME!" just makes you either stupid or lying scum that tarnishes the word "human". Deliberately misleading the stupid to attack your enemies is, in my opinion, one of the worst sins imaginable. Misinformation is a crime, especially if your actions in spreading it are malicious and lower the global informedness of the average person.

Woah. </rant>

...Sorry about that.

Just... Minecraft could be so much more than the community makes it.

Even though Mojang gave it the OK (reluctantly), I'm pretty sure modding Minecraft, if actually complained about, would be found illegal with the precedents we see coming out of most powerful countries in the world.
The only thing modding rests on is a gentleman's agreement.
A modder cannot own a mod, because it is a derivative work of Minecraft (one could argue that it is a seperate product supporting interoperability if the modder never read the code of Minecraft, but with the culture in North America around 'Intelectual Property' issues, I'm pretty sure that interoperability is considered infringement in the vast majority of cases. Just look what happens when somebody tries to use a legally purchased piece of hardware or software with other hardware or software the manufacturer would rather they didn't: BAM! Instant 'Piracy most foul' takedown and lawsuit.)
It would be morally wrong to use thier work without credit, but that's it.
You don't need permission to use a mod (even in a modpack!), because permission is not the modder's to give.
That privelidge rests solely with Mojang.

The problem with easy, popular games is it tends to bring the bad communities with it.

Also, the forum moderators are shit. They stickied a topic about a standardised modders copyright (what is it about the mods that makes the copyright... useless, by the way?), and basically, if a modder or supporter dislikes a topic, you can bank on it disappearing.

The MCF is genuinely terrible. Don't go there, for that way lies madness.

As for the rules thing...I'm not sure, but I think the pvp.aegisgaming URL used/is supposed to redirect to another map, not the Glixyl's Revenge map, but right now they're using that for GR2 for reasons.

That privelidge rests solely with Mojang.

When making broad statements about piracy laws, one should remember that they are different in every single country.
I can only speak about the Danish laws, and in my knowledge consumer laws are thus that you actually own the copy, and have a right to resell it, or do with it as you please. This includes buying a product from a third party that works with the game.
Think of modding as a smart-phone cover: It only works when you have the original product. The mod(or cover) does nothing on it's own.

Just to be clear, you have copyright on ANYTHING you create, this include any textures you make, and any code you write.
That does not mean you get copyright on Minecraft itself, it means you get copyright on the extra content you have created, and it also means Mojang can't use any mods sourcecode without permission.

Mojang CAN however use the idea, and write their own code that does exactly the same thing.
That's the difference between a patent and copyright.

There is always the Aegis Anarchy server.
