Well what ever you guys do, always and i mean ALWAYS close doors behind you. it means if anyone breaks in their not going to be able to rampage. Also make sure to carry some doors with you and close up open passageways. wile we still have claimed land it makes it defensibly feasible.

Did we lose anything bar a few deaths?

How many do they have to kill before they can declaim a chunk? If they've killed enough then they might have got to our forge or stockpiles.

Edit to add: I can make wooden doors that automatically shut after being opened but the mechanism is quite large.

Their is one dwarfy solution to all this:

We dig a dry moat around the entire mountain down to the bedrock. and build a system for us to leave and enter via a one way system, using /f home to get in.

Presently, I don't see how they got in, but they're camping where our old spawn was.

I reset it underground presently. We just have to wait until they leave, then we have to figure out how they got in and deal with it. I suspect some idiot connected the lighthouse caverns with the main caverns.

Huh, you know, that isn't a bad idea. Time consuming, but it might work...

When they leave, itll be a project, after weve built a moat around falling death depth then its digging should speed up considerably. we can also put lava at the bottom for added dwarfishness. Well end up having to build one way systems into the minning levels though.

well need a big enought group of people to flush those basterds out first though.

WEEKEND GOAL!

On this weekend, ide like all players to try gather for a massive minning project. Were going to dig that damnable moat so we can straight up laught at any new invasion attempts. Our co-ordinates were being sold in the chat, the time for secrecy is over. -though well leave the main fort blocked up and secure- Once weve got the moat craved out to a depth thatll insta-kill anyone who falls down, then we can procede to mine at our leasure untill we hit bedrock. Filling in caverns and mines on the way down. Later on well just build specalised one way systems.

If we get this done, we wont have to go out of the place except when we want to, without much chance of harassment. Pluss, all that stone will be prime material to construct a dwarven style castle on the mountainface.

Provided we get a tree farm set up mind. still need some deciduous tree sapplings for that one. -someones gonna have to do a quick half inch run from the spawn sometime to collect saplings, or travel hell of a distance from the fort-

One problem: They declaimed a chunk of our stuff because some IDIOT dorf let them in through the front door and didn't lava it off like they should have (I was getting diamonds from the vault at the time), we got killed repeatedly, and our power went to shit

So, protip for the future: getting killed loses us power, which loses us land. If they have our spawn trapped, etc wait it out don't just charge all willy nilly

I found two entrances: A melon farm had a cave in the roof that led to a massive sprawling series of more caves, some of them unclaimed, unexplored and/or likely connected to the surface.

At the bottom of the steps, there was a hole in the roof that allowed entry-only bypass of a door, plus it led to mining tunnels in unclaimed land.

The rail leading from the bottom of the stairs to the spider spawner connected at multiple points to various tunnels almost certainly some of them unclaimed.

I sealed the first two, and put a door before the second, so there should be fewer entrances.

Additionally, walking along most of the minecart passages allows you to get to many areas without having to pass through a door. This means that if someone *does* make it in, they'll have access to most open areas. This isn't much of an issue for treasures (They *are* stored in secure locations, right?), but it leaves most of the fort as a risky area to be, as you can easily be killed, reducing the total points, potentially to the point where some of our land can be claimed from us. Worse, if they're clever, they'll find land that has an essential door or two, so that they have even easier entrances to break in through. They can also claim some land and then sneakily construct back door tunnels that lead in from outside that bypass all of our doors, connecting them to points that are hidden enough that nobody will notice the new security holes.

I propose that _all_ rails and rail stations are isolated from the rest of the area by self-closing doors, and any access corridors to mechanisms have doors. Also, people should close doors behind themselves wherever possible. Also, people should think about putting sets of doors in the middle of passages, so that if someone does make it in, they'll only have a limited section to wander in.

Finally, can items dropped by opponents trigger wooden pressure plates? If not, what about chickens spawned by eggs thrown by them? If not, what about eggs dropped by chickens dropped by thrown eggs thrown by enemy factions? Better use stone wherever possible, for secure doors. Or, better yet, buttons. Since the Minecraft wiki says mobs trigger stone plates, and chickens can be spawned from eggs, which are portable.

<New replied while i was typing>

Wait, did all of that just happen?

Oh, another thing: I reccomend putting the spawn point itself in an inacessable exit-only room.

So it seems they've declaimed the farm (or wherever our new spawn was). What now? Is it time to abandon the fort and find a new embark? Or do we somehow soldier on?

Yeah, I think we need a new fort. We can't fight like this.

We'll gather everything we can and march farther north. I can think of some places, anyway.

I think the fortress is kind of untennable at this point. Were probably going to have to migrate and start again. our spawns get magma dumped on them and their wandering round with diamon swords and iron armour. we cant get anything done.

this time we need a set planned layout for it. And to make damn sure our minning op tunnels are all seperated from our fortress.
