we have a skeleton spawner so.

Btw: does a spawners spawn rate depend on the number of faces open? or dosent it matter so long as theirs at least one open into the room?

From what I read it makes no difference but sources might be wrong. I noticed it seems to spawn more when more people are near.

It only spawns when a player is nearby, but the number of skeletons spawned is decided by the number near the spawner, so if a skeleton was pushed away another slot for a skeleton to spawn would open up.

so if we put water down around the spawner so it pushed the skeletons away into pockets were they could be easily harvested could we potentialy get more skeletons for our buck?

EDIT:

we need more stone, we need a hell of alot more fuel (i suggest some peeps go on and harvest all the forrest and replant it -wich glowstones if nessacery- so we can turn it into charcoal), and we need glass like no-bodys buisness.
Right now: ive been linning the top of the wall/start of the roof with steps so no one can jump up onto it without going right to the end. wich i intend to put stone blocks on so no one can even get up their without an ender pearl let alone try throw one over the top. After the steps are completed we can fill the sands top with magma, and focus on the glass roof. -we should start a glass walk way around the entire edge first that way we can easily work on any part from any tower starting point- I intentionaly left the roof lower than the tower tops.
And yes one tower -the flag one- is slightly taller than the rest, this is just because of how its base is laied out and its fine since its the flag tower.

Im going to miss diving into the lakes from the tower tops when construction is finished.

p.s. no tower should have a button or switch to open its door to the top of the sandwall on the outside. On pain of being locked in the chicken coop for a few hours.

After that we need to finish the corridors inside, smooth everything up. then we can decide on the corridor branches and everyone can make their rooms and we can make the special dwarven bits were all proud of :)

I recommend that we buy coal instead.
Coal costs $60 per stack.
Netherstone sells for $50 per stack.

So basically if you go mine a inventory full of netherstone, you can return to base with a near full inventory of coal, far more then we would get by destroying the forest.

The only problem with neather minning, is the danger of being assaulted. As such, its advisable you only go with leather armour and stone equipment.

Yeah, that is a problem (unless you go way out of the way), and you are right, going with anything beyond plain stone equipment is overkill as well, go with a stack of stone, and a stack of planks, and you can make picks as you mine, and leave with a full inventory.

On the subject of the nether, would it be possible to build a nether portal in our base?

Having a portal leading directly into your base isn't very advisable from a security standpoint IMHO.

their disabled on this server. Besides: ide rather not have a portal right into our fortress from the inside :P
if we could make one ide shove it outdoors on a platform of somekind surrounded by traps etc.

Enderpearl teleportation is disabled on this sever. In light of this I think we should at least put the roof project on hold.

Edit to add: Some potentially bad news about a reset.

Hi everyone. Its been a while since I've been on the sever (as I said in an earlier post, DF and Starfarer releases have been eating up my time; as well I just bought the mount & blade bundle on steam... enough said). Anyway, just took a long look around the fort and I very, very happy. Its amazing to see all these little projects (many of which I started, like the moat and the stairwell) come to fruition. I can still remember when the wall was low enough that all I needed to get to the top was a three block stair. Now I look around a fort to proud of, with all craftsdwarfship of the highest quality. Long live Deepgate! (Also, I think it was Vattic, but whoever took my basic aesthetic for the iron block piston doors and used it for corridor doors: *tips hat*, it looks fucking gorgeous).

Finally, just read that thread on a possible server reset when 1.2 comes out. So, am I right in thinking that we don't know if they're going to just use the "update world" thingy so we can have double the Z levels and stuff or go for the hard reset?

or maybe Valve goes out of business because they invested too heavily in something which then fails - like, say, human civilization.
