Resident Evil 6
« on: January 19, 2012, 09:17:38 pm »

So, we have a new upcoming addition the Resident Evil series. Whether this is the continuation of a good series or another step in degradation, I don't know, but either way I want to try it out.

Trailer

Any thoughts?

Storyline sounds absurd. Hacking up the RE story into different modes of play sounds like a poor idea as well. Were it not for RE5 Mercenaries Co-OP, I would have considered that purchase a total waste of my money. I won't be purchasing anymore RE games, they've lost touch with what I enjoyed about the series. And the story has become one gigantic non-sequitur.

Yay, more zombies. The trailer's looking good, but I'm kind of saddened that RE is never the same again. It's still Action Horror, and while it's not bad, I kinda miss the good ol' survival horror genre.

I'm neutral to this.

The over-arching plot of Resident Evil feels strained at best, but I really don't give a damn. RE5 was a blast for me without a doubt and I am looking forward to some more quality action. It is a bit sad that the series isn't even remotely frightening anymore, though.

This series still exists?

I gave up on it after the one with the Mexican bee zombies.

Capcom should let RE die. Resident Evil should have died before it became some half arsed action game.

RE4 was very good, IMHO. RE5 was... passable.

Really resident evil didn't really have anything going for it until 4. That was one of the best ideas capcom had.

5 was... Ehhgh. Well usually. In split screen it was pretty fun.

I saw no spiders in the trailer. Image in OP is misleading.

Seems cool, I don't understand the dislike of the switch to shooter instead of pure survival horror.

I hope this one becomes another landmark of the series.

While I'm not a fan of the RE series all that much, I can understand why the original RE fans are pissed off. Kind of like having your favourite horror movie being butchered and turned into an action horror movie.

I'm not saying the previous REs are better or anything, and it doesn't affect me in any way, but yeah, I do understand the sadness of the fans.

5 is the only one I've tried, and I was never able to get past the very beginning of the game (when it throws a massive horde of zombies or whatever they are at you and expects you to survive and win). On the normal (or easiest? Was there even an easy mode?) difficulty, using at least 10 attempts before giving up and concluding that the game was simply not designed to be playable by new players (either that or not designed to be playable at all).

After experiencing that, I never saw any reason to pay any further attention to the series. Until then, I had been interested in the series, as it sounded interesting. The only thing that had been keeping me from getting the older games first was that the company wouldn't sell them for modern consoles (or PCs) except the Wii (if that), and I don't like the wiimote/nunchuk as a controller. But now I don't care anymore. If that's their design philosophy (make game impossible for the lulz) I have no reason to care about the games.

Considering your the first person I've ever heard to find the game too difficult, you may just be really bad at video games?

I mean, sure, a game being too difficult for you is a perfectly valid reason not to buy it, but describing their philosophy as "make game impossible for the lulz" is pretty... silly, really.
