It's quite warm for the time of the year as all contenders line up for the 14
the edition of The AFWRC. The public are cheering from behind the New 20 GJ shields, which protects them against weather, like the particulary strong wind that's currently blowing across the circuit, and accidental misfires. The starting line is marked by a giant arch, almost 600 meters high, and is shimmering softly in the morning light. The shimmering is caused by the soft forcefields that prevents contenders from entering the circuit before the race has started. Similair forcefields are preventing the contenders from eleminating their concurrents prematurely. As everyone boards their vehicles, the large clock above the gate activates and slowly begins counting down: 60, 59, 58,...
As the forcefields fizzle you notice that the entire circuit is lined by similair but stronger shields, intermitted by Large Steel watchtowers, for as far you can see . The towers are equiped with powerfull EMP cannons, so they can disable any cheating contender. They also have some more fearsome and deadlier weapons available if the contender fails to cooperate. The clock continues ticking and you the surroundings fade into view as the field dissolves. From here you can see the cristal clear mountain lake, the possible boat shortcut through the swamps and the giant dam in the distance. The field continues to fade: You realize that in a few minutes you'll be on your own, maybe not completly on your own, but the crew doesn't really count, and you realize there's no going back. You either finish or you die in the race. Not that Omni-tech would ever mention this to anywone, but you know that in the last few years, as supiciously high amount of racers
retired after they lost or criticized the AFWRC. Still, winning these race would net you enough money to do whatever you want, it would give you new opportunities, and maybe most important of all, it might earn you a spot on the AFWRC board of directors.
Still, there's no time to regret you descicion now, as a loud Gong announces the last 10 seconds on the countdown. The forcefield starts to flicker, the crowd is going wild and all the camera's are focused on the starting line. Meanwhile, the last seconds pass by:
