So I've been thinking. I like vanilla mode, but it seems like a lot of minecraft and dwarf fortress players are more into mods like buildcraft. I know that I've had more fun with buildcraft than minecraft after the initial survival period. So, I'm considering a slight change. We will still have a pure minecraft server- this will be the creative mode server. We will also have a survival tekkit server.

What does the server population think?

:(

I was afraid of that. I realize that Planehacked is one of the very few vanilla survival servers around, so there is something to be said for that. However, Tekkit has many of the advantages of vanilla- it's all in one package and self-updates and everything. It is a different experience, though, hence why I asked.

Honestly, I don't find vanilla fun anymore. Just too tired of mining the same damn tunnels all the time. Unless we had some community project like that city or something to keep me interested. Tekkit is interesting on this aspect too because some of its tools ease the construction of megaprojects a lot (EE namely)

Also, tadpoles.

For what it's worth, I'd really like to find/be on a server that just has IndustrialCraft2, nothing else.  It always seems like that mod's bundled with a dozen other things.

Industrialcraft per se without something as redpower or buildcraft to help automation is quite boring.

I was not playing Minecraft when all this stuff comes out. There was a DF faction on some Tekkit server somewhere, and I tried joining but everybody knew their business, and I couldn't figure anything out. I'd love to try out new contraptions and all that, but it's really easy to feel left out if there's tons of stuff already built and you have no idea how they work.

I personally disagree.  I think all that automation just means the game is playing itself for you.  If I have a big miner automatically digging up everything and sorting the blocks into chests, I might as well be playing creative mode.  But, again, that's my personal opinion.

I know I haven't been on in basically a month, but I have to say that I would love playing some Tekkit with fellow DF players. Don't count my opinion for anything, though. I can only consume bits for a few hours a day as we can't afford to have our bits delivered to our home at the moment.

As this is virtually on the eve of 1.4 (what's a couple weeks? I mean... really), I say that jumping to tekkit, or mods in general, might be self-defeating.  I personally enjoyed tekkit, for a very brief time, after which I automated my part of the world and got bored.

On that note, I have been growing rather bored with minecraft, and highly anticipate 1.4's arrival, which should provide some much needed "newness".

I'd be very interested to see where we could take a futuristic city community project with the help of Tekkit, assuming we have enough dedicated and talented builders to pull off a Deus Ex/Mass Effect style supercity. There were plans for a city of this scale backn the old Project server, but with automation, it should make things much easier.

In fact, if. I had the time, I'd love to lead something like this - draw up designs, plans, concept art, what have you. Alas, I no longer do.

I'd support something like this - if it gets off the ground and blooms.

I haven't really played around with Tekkit much, but I'll have a look soon. Redpower looks especially cool.

That's a sweet idea lordnincompoop :P I would totally be up for something like that, if everyone's okay with Tekkit. If we could all pull together to do a megaproject, that would be awesome.

I support this propect. To put a cherry on top, redpower includes the beloved microblocks which are a whole new world of minecraft architecture. Furniture is finally feasible.

Not that I've been on the Planehacked server yet, but my two cents about Tekkit is to disable EE (Equivalent Exchange) if you want it to take any time at all for people to get top-tier equipment and machines.  EE makes it really easy to get something from nothing, whereas the other mods, like IC 2, actually take some time and effort to get stuff.

Yes, but on the other hand, EE makes building megaprojects a breeze. Given I don't have the freetime to toil in the mines like a virtual slave to build my house, EE is quite useful to help acheiving anything.
