Is my little railway from near spawn to my lair OK?

It passes just under the south edge of Bitterwell, so I could add a stop there or something.

I also left a number of false channels as I was navigating underground without special tools; I tried to patch up the surface to look nice again; but there are spots that are a sand block on top of a cobblestone block, over a 20 block drop.

I also need to tidy up the end stations to be more attractive.

then I was thinking of branching out the railway to add more stops further east.

I was also thinking of trimming the bell bottom from my tower.

Well, I wouldn't mind having a rail stop. I can't speak fro the others, though.

While I'm in that general direction, my rail is through the Nether so I don't particularly require a stop.

Speaking of, is anyone interested in alchemy, ender chests, or extremely efficient furnace usage? If someone goes to 53Y,21Z in the nether and mines in the +X direction, you'll hit a spawner at around 438X. You would also be helping with the completion of my tunnel. Me love you long time and provide you with as many cookies as you want.

I've currently lost a total of around fifteen iron picks due to little things like being shot off of my bridge by a ghast... or being shot off of my bridge by a blaze... or being shot off of my bridge by another ghast... and then burning up in lava each time. Really, it's only three deaths. I want to take as few return trips to gather more picks as possible, though.

I want to try an experimental subgame- a survival marathon. The way it works is, the participants start at the spawn point. They have no items in their inventories, aside from, perhaps, a bed.
An hour, a day, or a week later, the winner is the person who at that moment is at the highest x-axis coordinates.
In the meantime, there are no rules. Attacking and killing other players, leaving TNT traps, luring creepers and endermen, even building a nether gate, are all valid strategies.
Since every minute spent digging down and looking for diamonds, gathering obsidian, and then navigating the nether is time you aren't spending walking west...

Who's interested? We'll probably have an hour or two long race this weekend to test it out, depending on interest.

I suggest something a little more interesting.  He who places a diamond block at the highest x coordinate.  Also, death should probably be permanent.

Diamond? Why not make it Emerald?

Diamond? Why not make it Emerald?

Depending on the time period and closest village that may not be possible, or it would be too easy, as you could just sell wheat, but sure, that actually sounds better.

We might want to have a clean world for this, possibly using a different port number.

Permadeath would, I think, actually decrease the amount of combat, as fighting someone would usually be too risky to attempt. The fact that one would lose all progress since your last bed location- and potentially, all the way back to spawn- would be a reasonable risk.

Some way of encouraging mining would be nice, so I kind of like the diamond idea. On the other hand, a pure "Amazing race" type challange would be interesting too.

Combine the ideas. The winner is the one who places the MacGuffin the farthest away. Include provisions that perhaps players can trap their MacGuffin pedestals. Other players could assault them for the goods instead of mining them themselves. It could be like a strange Ultra Hardcore/Race for Wool/Hunger Games thing.

With that method, you would end up with a potential bid-war situation of dropping your "MacGuffin" at the latest possible time.  Trapping it would be pointless without permadeath, as they could simply walk back and try again, potentially until your traps run out.

Do we have any rules on building in the town other than the obvious "Don't build stupid shit" rule?

Try to make it look thematic, but you have the basic idea.

As for the race, let's try a simple survival marathon to start, and then we will add complexities if we decide we want to try more games.

I'll be gone this weekend but I'd just like to suggest putting treasure chests around the spawn area with goodies for the contestants to fight over.
