I am in much agreement with LNCP.  The server would require modding, or bukkit plugs, to limit power, and that would be a huge bother.

After that brief suggestion-minecraft-playalong in forum games I had picked minecraft up again and have recently been playing quite a bit.

That the game will steal all your free time, and eventually your life? It's digital crack in multiplayer. Especially if you get a good project to keep you focused on.

I'm thinking that we need to have a dedicated creative mode again. Should I simply enable that by default on the current world, or should I make a new server that is creative?

Either way, it won't be changed until the next minecraft update comes out.

I personally think that there should be a survival server. Maybe put up a poll?

I've got work tomorrow so I'll wait until after that to get on.

I've decided that there will be a survival region and a creative region, separated by a vast distance (we'll have large biomes on). To travel between them will almost certainly require a mod to teleport you.

This will serve to prevent survival builds from being upstaged by creative ones, while still allowing players in a region to communicate with everyone else and eliminate the overhead of two servers.

I do too, but I'm seeing a catch here - you'll require one moderator to always be present in the creative region, or at least one player, as long as there is a need for teleportation. That may not always happen.

Your Minecraft server caters primarily to a forum whose users take saying something is impossible as a dare to try it. I'm hoping we're about to see the construction of a 3 million tile long railroad.

True, but the fact that Henge has nonsensical sleep patterns, along with Japa and I happening to live on the opposite side of the world should mitigate that down to only a moderate annoyance. Plus, if it proves to difficult, we could always throw together an impossibly long railway (it's not like we haven't done it before).
