Just try a few times. You should be able to get in.

Anyway, does anybody know what that big building right below the spawn is, the one with the glowstone around it and the caves? I tried exploring one, but after realizing that I can't place blocks down there, I went back up.

That is intended as a spawning area. I'm not sure if that works or not.

Ops can modify blocks there.

You spawn on the surface of the water though, next to the bouy. It's kind of a cool Bioshocky moment, then you realize there's just one room below with an exhortation to build when you can't. Also one time I got stuck in there and couldn't get out the open doors. I ended up standing in the doorway and relogging, which shunted me upward to the roof and let me escape.

I'll work on it. Maybe make it so that the water near the bouy will suck you down into the base. And I'll expand it so that there's passages going out to the edge of the spawn square.

I'm thinking that we need to have a dedicated creative mode again. Should I simply enable that by default on the current world, or should I make a new server that is creative?

Either way, it won't be changed until the next minecraft update comes out.

I like survival and would prefer if it wasn't creative :/

That said, when adventure mode comes out, it would be cool for anybody to be able to make a dungeon for people to play through on adventure mode.

Maybe we should just start a new world (large biomes?) and enable game-mode switching by OPing those who are whitelisted. We would have to put limits on it and be careful, of course, but it might be possible.

The only way to have an enforceable limit on that is to make OPs control the switching, which is what we have now.


Also, I really wish 1.3 would drop already, so that we can upgrade and I can come back to multiplayer >_>

No. I've cut out the rest of this quote because regardless of context, situation and purpose, simply giving out administrative privileges to anyone (or even without proper forethought) is a bad, bad idea.

Remember that OPs also have the power to kick and ban people, speak through the server, and (if the command is still there) to shut down the server entirely. Not everyone can use or hold those powers responsibly, even in a community as small as this.

I'm also hesitant to have free gamemode switching even if it were possible without administrative privileges because there have been several griefing incidents in the past, and frankly, Creative Mode griefers are harder to clean up after. If needed, existing OPs can just switch gamemodes for responsible individuals.
