HOLY HELL I LOVE YOU MASTAH

Eh, might as well post this half-baked ting I wrote for school.

The clouds growled and murmured ominously. Vast, elephantine shadows hung over the world. The storms had gathered to weep and lament. I spread my umbrella in anticipation. The sprinkle quickly turned into a violent downpour. A lightning bolt lit up the umbral sky as if it was a flashbang. The thunder was reminiscent of a bomb going off. The memory of a life I have just left flooded back.

We were marching under the mantle of night. Our feet splashed as we trod on the flowing mud. The moonless skies were weeping in acknowledgment of the bloodshed that was taking place. The roar of war was able to be heard as our main force kept the enemies occupied. We were the audiences to a brutal, cruel orchestra of bullets and rain accompanied by wet footsteps in the mud and the hushed whispers of war-weary veterans. At this point I cared neither about the war nor the glory of serving my nation and all that. The war was ending soon and my mind was back at home already, eating warm food and having a good night’s sleep in a warm, clean bed. A thunderous boom yanked me back to reality. The enemy’s base wall was lit up as a section collapsed. We broke our stealth and charged as according to plan.
I was deliberately lagging behind as much as I was able to without arousing suspicions by the others. The front line would always be the first to absorb the brunt of the clash, and I think it was neither ‘dulce’ nor ‘decorum’ to ‘patria mori’. The others who rushed past me evidently thought otherwise, charging to the leaden cloak of Death. I was lost in the amorphous crowd of terrified men spilling into a camp filled with equally terrified enemies. I heard a yell in foreign language as it dawned on our foes that they were getting attacked from all sides. It was already obvious how the battle was going to end, and many fell before the white flags were finally but inevitably raised.

The battleground was eerily silent after the battle. Even the orders and shouts sounded muted somehow. From the craters where bomb shells hit the smokes rose as if they were souls departing to the heaven above. I still remember the expression of the prisoners of war that we rounded up. Some of them showed contempt, some of them shame. We asked ourselves again if we were doing the right thing, whether we were the evil oppressors or the protectors of the innocent.

The rainstorm made me shiver despite my umbrella. In a space of half an hour a benign sprinkle had developed into a raging testament to nature’s fury. Nearly everyone had retreated indoors and  I quickly followed suit when I saw my destination. The city’s council was still buzzing even in this inclement weather, although I suspected that some of the people inside were actually just there to avoid the rain. I strode with determination and dropped the envelope containing part of my military pension into the charity donation box. It was still a long way to undo all my sins, but I have promised to those lost souls that we shall repair the damage we have caused to humanity, or die trying.

But secretly in evil's hold
Suddenly his freedom sold
Eventually as he was told
Never again to be so bold

Underneath the rainbow
Once again his life a test
But never learned to say no
He comes across the rainbow's edge
'Neath a tree, over a hedge
Silver was never quite like gold
Twice as nice, and half as old
Runs through his fingers, not even cold
But cold man finally realize
That what he sees is but through his eyes
Metals and jewels, full of lies
Twin'kling 'neath the vivid sky
Hiding all its livid suprise
For the man who wanders

He looks up, and sees the colors
And finally he realize
That treasure lies not at his feet
But above the pot of gold
And so he walks away and grins
Not a penny in his pocket
Nor sinister silver locket
For he left that wickedness at the pot
To see the light, darkness not
Nor flames that burn, thrice as hot
'Tis not for courage that he fought
Only for the answer that he sought
Question cometh, now he knows
That this is why he wanders

I immediately thought of Jethro Tull while reading this. Needs a flute/piccolo solo. Otherwise, solid work.
