Formerly retired adventurer with a bunch of crafts
« on: January 16, 2012, 10:50:15 am »

I started a fort after retiring an adventurer, let it run about eight years, ruined it and took him out. He has a lot of items made out of hair and bone now.

Does this happen only if a lot of time passes or would it have happened if you unretire the very next day?

He also has no whip skill but owns a masterpiece iron whip now made by 'an unknown artisan'. I can't remember if it was one of the coming out of retirement gifts.

I think when you retire your dwarf turns into a npc staying in the town or settlement and he can get things or buy things i dont know

The accessories are based on the kills your adventurer has.  I'm pretty sure you have to wait awhile for them; you definitely can't just retire and immediately unretire.  I once had a couple of adventurers in rotation, but it seems the time between switching wasn't enough to earn them their stuff.

I can now imagine your adventurer walking around with his bogeyman bling... He's got rings on his rings, and bracelets on his crowns o_0

Just to be really weird, at one point in one of my adventures (without retiring, even) my traveling companion spontaneously developed well-crafted, decorated armor and mountains of kill trophy jewelry.  The armor he technically already had (I'd used DFusion to get him to pick up some armor I'd bought), but its quality increased and it developed decorations.  The kill trophies just turned up out of nowhere (and I had to use DFusion to switch to him again and make him drop them- he was wearing so much jewelry that it was physically slowing him down).

I think the decorated armor depends on skill levels.  Bandit leaders and such tend to have better-quality, decorated armor.  Presumably he managed to trigger the generation function somehow.

why is Dwarven science always on fire?
Because normal science is boring

I love how he's only wearing half of the stuff, preferring to hold it all in two hands. Maybe he goes around his town remenescing of when he used to be an adventurer, showing proof to anyone who walks too close.

"Oh no, it's that crazy hobo who believes the cat he killed with a *sharp mudstone* was actually a dragon."

"Hey, man still with the glassmaking? Maybe you should try being an adventurer, like I WAS." *shoves his hands full of trophies into his face*

"Yes, yes, and now you'll tell me those are bogeyman bone earrings."

In mid air, the dwarf continued to take hits from both the minecart and his own falling axe.

Next he'll be saying that sweetbread is actually a pancreas.

Found a replicator.

Warthog sweetbread is a cupcake with a little jellybean on top shaped like a warthog head. Same goes for other sweetbreads. There is a prize inside every steaming pile of organs.
