Do you see how those sentences have absolutely no cohesion?
Maybe it is because now is almost 2 am here. Lets remind context: you claimed that abolishion of copyright would lead to rampant "stealing" ideas, concepts and products. I claim these are different issues and one do not follow another. I do not feel like defending it, as I already said three times I am NOT calling for abolishing copyright. -.-

I'm really interested in how your government works in a discussion about SOPA -_-
Yes, it was tangiental rant. I will drop it, as this thread is supposedly about SOPA and PIPA, not shortcomings of american democracy.

Not to mention you're being arrogant, and patronising.
Sorry, it was not my intention.

I feel like I'm going to be living in some sort of Randian dystopia before I die.  With the prolonged undeath of the traditional establishments of power...  I feel like that one guy in a zombie movie that has all sorts of guns and stuff and then he gets eaten first to prove how helpless the situation is, if that analogy makes sense. I just feel so helpless even though I pay attention and see through the sham that is America.  What can any of us do?  Even my vote means nothing if those in power don't want it to.

We need to start a petition to abolish our government and start anew. This would only work one state at a time and would result in their receding from the nation.  Seems to be the only logical solution

Because revolutions have always been lovely, nice and neat like that.

Though, on the topic of revolution, if you seriously think it's a good idea, make sure your new leaders of the people are competent at running a country. So many revolutions dicked up because they didn't know how to run the place.

I don't think the situation will get THAT intense. Mostly there'd just be angry grumbling as everyone continues the long journey through life.

Fabulous idea! Revolt against the ones that have been fucking you over your entire lives. That way, you can start anew, and choose someone different to fuck you over for the rest of it!

The internet is the dearest non-human thing to me.  If I have any berserk button that could motivate me to behave rashly, it's threats to the internet.  I know that the majority of the population does not feel that way, but I would still wager that the number of people who do ranges in the millions.

Considering the amount of people who use the internet, including those who use it for business, to keep in touch with those they love, and and explore a world beyond themselves, I'd say "millions" is short.

No, they will not. There would be some protests, sure, but I still think American Spring is 20-30 years in future. At earliest. And current protests will be just waited out, like whole Occupy Wall Street fiasco. Rich always getting away with crap and all of that.

And SOPA will not come out, don't worry. This will be put in completely unrelated act with "child" and "pornography" in title (that itself have nothing to do with content even before modification). Try to oppose THAT, you filthy paedophile!

Sorry to interrupt this interesting debate, but I cannot see any mentions of ACTA?

It's all over Reddit now, as a global SOPA/PIPA.

Youtube video
Explanation of why it should not pass

So here I was, sitting cozy 'n comfy in Denmark. Eating some rye bread and drinking some milk when I see all the fuss about SOPA/PIPA. "Oh gosh!", thought I, "Those silly Americans with their undemocratic democracy. Now I must internally gloat of being in a better country where these things don't take place." And apparently this ACTA thing is approaching being just as bad.

Things wrong about ACTA:
  • ISPs become reliable of all the content they're supplying. If they do not give copyright holders free access to the things you're streaming, they'll be pirates as well. This is all done outside of courts, and you are not guaranteed a fair trial.
  • The damages that copyright holders can claim do not necessarily have to be real. As a matter of fact, the damages claimed by the ACTA bill and the standard damages in the EU are different. In the current EU legislation, you must prove the lost sales/lost profit, and can be compensated that amount. In ACTA, hypothetical lost sales can be used.
  • ACTA provides criminal sanctions in a trade bill. Criminal sanctions have their own process of verification which involves voting and stuff. Trade bills don't. This means that no one ever actually voted for these things, they were decided in closed back rooms.
  • ACTA also creates an "ACTA committee" which will serve as a tool for changing ACTA after it has come out. This committee will, again, be able to modify the criminal sanctions according to their own, and not any parliament's or other voting instances, will. This allows for swift and efficient implementation of criminal law without anyone outside this little committee ever getting a say in it.
So yeah. Seems like shit just got real here in the EU. I'm afraid I'm now going to have to be one of those people on facebook that post political content. :-/

The European Union, Mexico, and Switzerland attended but did not sign, professing support and saying they will do so in the future.[21][22]

.....Is it me, or is anyone ELSE getting flashbacks to middle school and Ray Bradbury? Because this seems like one giant neon-red flashing light to the slippery slope that leads to midnight readings and Firemen al la Fahrenheit 451

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.
