I'm not even sure if that's hilarious or tragic. Probably both.

I can't help but hope the internet wins in the end, but at the same time, if the internet dies, maybe I'll just go hunt my other more worldly dreams till the corporations wrest control of even Denmark and locks me away for not contributing to their slow destruction of our world and species.

Stupidest. PR. Ever.

Just when they pissed off virtually everyone on the Internet, they decide to openly threaten representatives. Do they think we're in a James Bond© movie ? For all I know, they're asking hackers and activists to destroy the music and movie industry.

As much as we may not like it, money creates a unbiased playing field.
It is biased by definition. Rich gains more than poor, because... wait for this... rich have more money! So you lie saying this is "unbiased playing field". And wow, he runs away fast. Seems like he knows he will be taken apart for his idiotic drivel.

they said the bills were postponed "until a compromise is reached". What does that mean ?
Robber to victim: "Okay, let's compromise - I will rob you from 50$ instead of original 100$". That kind of compromise.

Summary:
Copyright laws needs deep reform. Obsolete industry need mercy killing. If copyright laws are truly incompatibile with freedom of speech (I do not think that, but if), then completely abolish copyright. It is simple as it.

Of course, this is only one facet of bigger problem - rampant, unconstrained, legalized corruption in USA goverment and other involved parties.

If you completely abolish copyright, you can surely expect large companies stealing ideas, concepts and entire products and outproducing the original owners. Compromise, not abolishment is needed :/

I maintain that creative artists need control over their product so they can make a living off their actual art, not novelty mugs or whatever.

Intellectual Property (which is only possible through copyright) may be full of problems, but I wouldn't want to abolish it.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Which is why SOPA is such a terrible idea. It doesn't protect anything, it only destroys.

Copyright-less (or with alternatives, like copyleft) environment is non-conductive for creation and survival of large companies, and companies that would left would have significantly less power. Anyway, I said already I am not for abolishing copyright - it would be used only as last resort in defense of one of basic human rights.

stealing ideas, concepts and entire products
Um, you seem to mistake copyright with patents, trade secrets etc. It is different can of worms.

and outproducing the original owners.
Do original owners can now outproduce large companies?

Compromise, not abolishment is needed :/
I already said what kind of compromise I expect form them.

?

It's there for a reason, generally infringing on human rights is taken "slightly" seriously in the modern world, and abolishing copyright wouldn't fix anything.

Um, you seem to mistake copyright with patents, trade secrets etc. It is different can of worms.

How so?

Do original owners can now outproduce large companies?

It is interesting that once your rich enough the dynamic can switch. Where the issue isn't rich people and corps manipulating people with money but rather fear of the mass of people being set against you.

The only way I can balance the veiwpoints (because they are both valid) is what I call the "Rule of effort".

A large group of people have to try their hardest to stop someone with lots of money using their "casual" effort.

It is one of the reasons why the everyman can feel so defenseless even though the Elite can outright fear their interference. Since YES technically the everyman hold all the power, but only if they are absolutely willing to exercise it on mass.

One of the reasons why Lobbying works so well is because there simply isn't enough people willing and able to police politics. How many people would have voted against a new law versus how many would have actually done something against it.

SOPA is a great idea! It gives a third party the right to the internet in essence. In what way wasn't that a great idea? :P

I mean, why SHOULD we care about anyone else economically?
