Yay, SOPA is back. -_-

I'm not surprised by this, considering it's backed up by those idiots from Hollywood.

Oh well, I guess the Mayans were actually right about the end of some world...

Wikipedia is down. You can only view SOPA and PIPA's articles normally right now.

And best of all.....Google has put up an information banner against SOPA and PIPA, right on their homepage.

You should probably be more concerned than that, Max. If America's internet goes to hell we're pulling a great deal of the global internet down with us. Also, our corrupt politicians will try to bribe threaten sanction convince your corrupt politicians to pass an internet censorship bill that does apply to you directly.

Our politicians have been trying to screw over our internet for years... Why do you think we have the slowest internet of the developed world? Hard to get outraged when somebody threatens to blow up your tyre fire.

If a resistance can be made here, it can spread. I promise that if the Australian Wikipedia does this, I won't ignore it.  :P More seriously, let me know if the government tries to do more suppression in Australia. I will sign a petition for you.

In slightly more funny news, I've seen some comments posted on industry hollywood movie forums:

"If you passed SOPA and PIPA, I could've just got your entire site shut down by posting copyrighted material. You'd be punished for something you had no control over."

It's technically spam and usually immediately removed as such, but it's a good point.

Indeed, it is a good point. If those bills get passed, people will start spamming copyrighted material, to the point when the government actually decides to nuke the whole internet for violating the law, or they simply leave the mangled internet as is.

If there's anything this stupid set of bills promote, it's chaos.

Basically they failed to realize just how terrible certain parts of humanity and thus the internet are. Have a website you don't like? Posting copyrighted material to it will get it shut down. It's the digital equivalent of signing up that work colleague you positively hate for the most embarrassing and sometimes "adult" magazine subscriptions you can imagine and having them delivered to the office in their name in an attempt to get them fired. They will have some explaining to do when "their" subscription of every porn magazine ever is delivered to their place of work and "Uh, it's not mine," somehow seems like something you'd say if it WAS yours. Good luck convincing your boss of that.... Especially when firing you will "magically" stop the problem.

Except this is even worse, because unlike when people have really done this and then been sued for intentional infliction of emotional distress and lots of other things, you can't really trace it online or hope they're stupid and paid for it with their own credit card. We all know that you shouldn't feed the trollololols. This gives them a god damn banquet they not only don't have to pay for, but that they can stick their enemies with the bill for.

You should really have to do a "think like a bastard who abuses laws" test before you propose a law.

I wonder how thorough you have to dig to find unauthorized usage of copyrighted material on any random congressperson's website.

You should really have to do a "think like a bastard who abuses laws" test before you propose a law.

I believe they've got this covered.

Somebody needs to change the title.

Also, just noticed, Mojang has joined the fight against SOPA and PIPA.
