Yeah, I have never had a single game where I have run out of fuel without any way to prevent it. Every single time I have run out because I: Rejected surrenders (that would give me fuel), went through like a bajillion nebulas in a row while low on fuel, not bought fuel at shops or given it away at distress beacons (which is the single biggest cause).
Yes, the game can (in theory) screw you over completely by not ever giving you any chance to get fuel, but it hasn't ever happened to me.

That isn't to say that I don't run out of fuel, but whenever I do I recognize that it could have been avoided.

So much randomness!

Is there a mod to change event outcomes allowing a skill based check? Not just with blie being better, but, i.e. having a strong mantis shift the outcome of giant spiders a bit toward good results

No, from what I understand of FTL event modding even if you wanted to do something like that it would have to be using blue events.

Anyway, just learn to manage your risk.  From what I understand, the giant alien spiders event is something like 50% crew member dies 50% normal random rewards, which is terrible and you should never go for it without a blue event or a clone bay.  Or desperation.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

Hehe. I've gotten so used to passing on that event I skipped it last night and then remembered that I had a clone bay afterwards.

Do the clones lose their skills if they die?

Hmm, not sure. Didn't matter in this case since it was only the 2nd or 3rd beacon I visited at the start of the game. But I could see them losing some skills to it, same way they do when they die during normal combat.

On a secondary note, the rng hates me. So the only time I tried the clone system I got one die to infection, which clone bay cannot fix

Quit risking activating the drone to get to the space station.

Spoiler: Victory at any cost. (click to show/hide)

First time ever playing Rock C.

While Rock A and B were fairly meh, Rock C is pretty damn awesome.

Also should make unlocking the Crystal Cruiser easier, which is pretty damn nice.

Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

Did you just win via seppuku? I've never done that, does it give you a special message or something?

Also, I finally won with the Mantis C game I mentioned earlier by turning on the auto-pilot and then killing the systems over and over and over. First win I've had with a boarding ship of any kind.

Nothing special happens. The only requirement for victory is that the rebel flagship is destroyed. I think, though, for this this happen, you have to kill it first and then have the shots fired by the flagship before it was downed kill you. I don't know for sure, because too busy staring at the flagship in those last seconds to notice I was about to die.

To admit you winning makes perfect sense.

It doesn't matter that you survived so long as you defeated the rebels.

Also a RARE game where the Rebels are the bad guys.

I knew this was possible because I saw in the patch notes that they changed it.  Before (like over a year ago) you would lose if this happened, apparently.
