I can't wait to get the zoltan ship. Supershield and free reactor bars? Hell yes. What its weaknesses?

- Boarded event. It bypasses your super shield.
- Inconvenient layout.
- Weak starting weapons. Likely not fast enough to disable enemy before your super shield is gone.
- Super shield is like paper to anti-ship drones.
- Beams will also rip super shield apart fast. It takes one damage per room the beam targeted.

Ion weaponry also tears the zoltan shield apart.

I'm talking about late game. Doesn't seem like there is anythink better then a full crew of zoltan and an extra shield.

How about a crew of half-crystal/half-engi and enough firepower to render the need for a shield moot? :P

Latest Stealth cruiser run went so much better. Victory (with 2 hull points remaining thanks to bad timing with the cloak) plus unlocking Stealth B. I credit finding a Glaive beam in the first sector and fighting the final boss with two different bomb weapons as the keys to my win.

A four-mantis boarding party with proper support (anti-medbay bombs, anti-missile cloaking) is pretty godly.

The ship has doors, so it should be fine.

Mantis suffocate pretty quickly when they teleport into an airless room with level 3 doors.

Level three doors are handy even if you have sufficient crew to repel boarders. It means you don't have to waste time fighting the boarders on your ship, you can send your boarders to the enemy ship and let asphyxiation deal with the invaders. Having higher levels of oxygen make any suffocation-based anti-boarder strategy several times more convenient to work with.

At what point does killing ships with nothing but ion blasts switch from clever tactic to violation of Geneva convention?

When you get fire-bombs, fire beams, and Rockmen boarders.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

The moment you start spamming their oxygen system.

I imagine the second-in-command is horrified, but still saying "Another excellent shot, captain. That's twelve shots in a row."

I don't think those exist in FTL :P

Besides, unless you pick up craptons of ion weaponry you won't be able to do it past sector three or so. Enemies start getting too many shields for a single ion weapon to take down.
