It's B.  Starts with a teleporter and has heal bomb as a starting item.  Slug A is more about killing the crew from afar.

I'm not 100% sure, but from what I see from the blueprints XML, the boss has 4 starting droids: 1 Combat, 1 Beam, 1 Defense, and 1 Boarding.

I have no idea how many he gets from power surges. That might be hardcoded because I can't find it.

Also, fun fact for everyone I found out while checking the above: The devs actually made missile and ion drones, but they aren't used. You can look inside blueprints.xml: Just do a search for "COMBAT_ION", the missile drone should be right beneath it, and their weapons right above it.

Missile drones? Ion drones?

Let's hope they both would've taken up 3-4 energy O_o

At the current state, they both would take up 2 energy each, based on the files. Really.

Though to be fair, they do give off the feeling of incomplete at the moment.

I never found ion weapons to be any useful, because their effects wear off so quickly.

In hindsight, I probably have been using them the wrong way.

You'd change your mind if you got the rapid fire ion burst. Fires every 4? seconds...

Ion Blast MkII. Yeah, it fires every 4 seconds.

Never encountered one of those.

It's fast enough to keep any system crippled permanently, assuming shields are down or enemy only has 1 layer of shield  [edit: and you are not facing something with high evasion]. However, I prefer Ion bombs. While they are slower to charge and uses missiles, they do more ion damage and so are just as good for crippling a system. They only require 1 power, leaving you with much more for weapons doing actual damage. At the end of my last game, using the stealth ship, I had halberd beam + burst laser mk III + ion bomb. The final boss never had a chance.

But overall, I agree that ion weapons are somewhat ineffective. In most situation, some burst laser or similar weapon will be more useful for the same amount of energy.

God I fucking hate electrical storms. Possibly the most annoying thing I've experience in a video game. I try to avoid ALL nebulas because of them.
I just had a really impressive start with the Torus mode A. Got a heavy ion and a beam drone and was really wrecking ships when combined with my starting items. Entered an eletrical storm because the two paths both lead the Nebulas and was destroryed by an auto scout who had both missles and a beam drone. I didn't have enough power to activate both a drone and a weapon or both engines and shields. If electrical storms were patched out I would be an extremely happy man.

edit: spelling

People are still trying to fight in plasma storms? :o

Geez. When you enter a combat in plasma storm, just try to get out alive, loot be damned.

When you have no shields and the other guy has a beam drone you're not going to be able to get out alive no matter how much you crank up those FTL drives :<

All that you need to survive plasma storm battle are working shields and engines, really :P

Unless you had lvl.1 shields. Then it sucks v:
