It gets repetitive yes but it doesn't lose its fun. If being repetitive was a fun killer then I don't know how Tetris and PacMan ever made it big.
There weren't many better games around during their time.
Anyone who plays pacman or tetris nowadays is probably playing on a phone while they're waiting on something.

Since I don't want to "just complain": let me specify what irks me in particular: Space combat feels too simplistic to me! There's little beyond timing your shots and putting out fires (yes, I know there are things "beyond that". but few of them, that's the problem). I'd have liked a deeper tactical level. Perhaps something on the lines of Master of Orion 2's space combat

... good to know. I'm going to try it on my netbook now. (Ok, so you redeemed it a bit in my eyes. I'll go up to: it's worth 3/4 of the money I actually paid  :P)

I wish you could over-charge your lasers (charge for twice the time) to punch through more layers of shields.  It would go a lot way to helping when you just don't find enough weapons.

Today I learned that Diablo 3 and FTL were relatable and comparable.

of course they are. But it should be noted that FTL has probably 10 to 15 times the fun per dollar as diablo 3.
How so?

Are you saying you play FTL for same/similar reasons as you do D3?

Are we not allowed to compare games of different genres?  Can I not say that I got more hours of enjoyment from Dark Souls than I got from Far Cry?

Am I sensing a little defensiveness?

Anyway, my biggest complaint so far is that sometimes it feels like half the game is praying you don't get the one ship type that you can't deal with.  It's like I beat the first three or four sectors easy, no casualties, not more than 6 or 7 total damage, sometimes I'll even make it to like 6 or 7, then I hit one enemy who's got the perfect counter, and he just blows through my HP like it's nothing, sometimes I manage to get away but I'm usually crippled or destroyed.

Also, the occasional "Just fuck off on back to the start, okay?" event.  I had one that spawned four mantis in my ship, plus an enemy mantis ship with a teleporter that spawned two more.

I've also seen the occasional really fucked up enemy event, like the one where the slug disables your oxygen scrubber and starts whips out the fire beam.

I don't know about you guys, but I play all games with the same fundamental reason: to have Fun. I play a variety of games because I'm often in the mood for different types of fun or challenges, but it all comes down to fun in the end.

You can, but its kinda of silly. Genres are different, ergo you're going to enjoy some genre over others. The conversation wasn't about which genre you like over others, its just out of no where. I got a sense, that it was just a slam on triple a games.

There are no fires when you're venting, that's just silly!

There is also no oxygen.  And if the O2 machine is broken, there will soon be no crew, depending on how far away the medibay is from the O2 machine and the race/skill/number of the surviving crewmembers.

No, not a big slam on triple a games.

FTL is a good game, it is worth $9 give or take.

Borderlands 2 is a great triple a game that I bought for $60.

Diablo 3 would have been a decent 3rd rate game if I only payed $10 for it. At nearly $70 is was a sorely disappointing.

I actually value this as much as I did Atom Zombie Smasher and SPAZ, and they all cost the same. It's definitely a different genre, and people are allowed to like genres differently. I think the discussion probably stems form the choice of words "getting one's money's worth". It feels like you're saying the game is objectively bad instead of subjectively bad.

Nothing is ever objetively bad.

No, not even Diablo III. It comes close

That being said, I don't think FTL is a bad game... just kind of lacking.

Yea. I know what you mean. It doesn't feel like it has 180k worth of development behind it.

Didn't someone say that the devs only asked 10k for a kickstarter, and the rest was extra?
