Well, I've gotten to the point where I can consistantly get to the final boss with any ship I've unlocked, if not beat him. Like many games of this sort, luck will always play a role, but its a surprising how much skill can overcome that.

But I just can NOT figure out how to get the alternate layout for the stealth ship. I can, again, consistantly get to the final boss - but while I've taken down many a ship in a single cloak, I just can't manage to do it with a full hull. I have killed plenty of ships with a full hull, too, mind you.

I think lasers might just not kill fast enough. As awesome as the glaive beam is. I might end up trying for a hold full of rocket launchers, and switching to those so I can ignore the shield and focus on lethal damage. Or maybe two rockets and a glaive beam... Rocket the shields, then glave beam to finish the ship?

Rocketing the shields and glaiving seems the most sound tactic.

Or 4x breach missiles might do.

I managed to avoid 9 points of damage by cloaking in the third phase of the flagship by cloaking through the superweapon.

Getting to Sector 8 without going through a single environmental danger is doable, but requires friendly map layout.

I didn't get the kill a single enemy in a single cloak achievement until I unlocked the B layout for the Stealth Cruiser.

It starts with a Glaive Beam. Getting the achievement after that is trivial.

So I bought the game a few hours ago and made it to the last sector within two playthroughs.

Holy shit that's a difficulty spike.

I made the mistake of forgetting to turn off my defense drone, or I probably would have had the 9 points of damage one. DARN.

The avoiding hazards one was just exceptionally easy.

But I need to either get back to the boss or get the kill now...

So, maximum damage for the minibeam is 4, right? Anyone done better?

Having a great run. Only 2 jumps in, got an engi crew member and a weapon preigniter, and didn't really have to do anything.

Also, using the Kestrel this time.

Edit: third jump, free rockmen.

Lady Luck, AKA RNG looks kindly upon you this day.

Advice #1: Do not squander it.
Advice #2: She is fickle and it is only a matter of time before she gets a mood swing.

Also, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!

And there are some oddities, like there fair amont of folks that experience slow fps. (As I do.) And other performance issues.

Really? I get ludicrously high FPS (way above my monitor refresh rate).

Hehehe, one of the Engi crewmen (of my Engi ship :P) defaulted to the name "Notch."

Messed around a bit on normal the other day and didn't get that far. Unlocked the Engi ship but that's about it.

Played today on easy and won three times straight through.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I've got a couple of ships to unlock and some achievements I want to take a run at, then I'll go back to banging my head against Normal.

Wooh, Mantis ship!

I kind of thought I'd need a Mantis for this, but nope! Just a teleport and lv2 medbay, apparently!
(And making good choices, obviously)

I know someone suggested making a lets play thread but I don't really feel like it. I am mostly just playing it for myself and having it recorded is a side benefit so anyway here is another games worth of videos:
