Not really. I've got it down to a science.


Only way to lose is if I get 0 burst lasers or missiles. :P

I think this game is going to set a new record for ragequits.
I got like 20 deaths already, of which the majority due to my own stupidity(autofire, forgetting to repair, forgetting to turn on medbay/ oxygen, forgetting to target a weapon, forgetting to buy fuel and then activating distress on a shop). I did rage because I accidentally quite though.

I sent everyone over, killed their ship, won the battle and returned... to a ship that had, without my realizing it (I'd managing the boarding party) had it's 02 knocked out.

Everyone suffocated before they could get the medbay. :(

If you are fast enough to hit up most stores in the game, it's hard not to get burst lasers, or missile spam. The secret is metagaming teleporters though for stupid amounts of scrap.

Welp, my Torus died at almost exactly the same point as my previous Kestrel.  Farewell, Strange Loop.

(Boarding party, plus missiles, plus only three defending crew.  It was all over when they targeted the O2 unit and shields.  Darn.)

Edit: HAHA!  I only just discovered that if you go to rename your craft, delete the existing name (e.g. Red-Tail), and then hit Escape without typing anything new, it calls it "The Nameless One".

Guess there's no chance it's immortal, though.  :P

There's also a bug with the highscore screen if you press escape and leave right after starting a new game right after winning one, it gives you a victory citation with a score of 12 in sector 8. I'll screenshot it in a sec.

Just had my first victory. Easy mode, but there really was nothing easy about it. The Lotus, a Kestrel class ship. I had the ship nearly fully upgraded. I was missing 1 piloting upgrade and I believe a single energy upgrade, 2 cloak upgrades and the excess drone upgrades I didn't need. I had a full crew at the start of the final battle including one of every species except slugs. I ended up with 2 Burst laser 2s, a Burst Laser 3, and a breach bomb 2. A defense 1 drone, and a hull repair drone. Teleport fully upgraded.


Even with all of that, It was a very close battle and I got very lucky at points. Also got lucky enough to unlock the Zoltan cruiser during that playthrough as well as the Red-tail.

I just unlocked the Slug Cruiser, it's pretty interesting, it hasn't got any sensors but comes with two slug crew members and some weapons oriented around killing the enemy crew.

Dead (yet) again!  :-[

So...missiles.  Am I right in thinking that apart from defense drones and evasion (including cloaking), there's no way to avoid getting your backside handed to you in fairly short order?  As in, not finding/not using at least one of those two options is going to result in a fairly rapid death by shield-skipping explosions?
