« on: January 14, 2012, 12:33:43 pm »

This is the main thread.
You post turns and Rp here.

Also will be put in OP.

You need 20 levels all together to get there. That means Merchant+Adventurer+Soldier >= 20.

What city sells what:Google docs

Character sheets: Google docs

(Each sheet is a separate person. The bonuses for trade skill levels are in Toaster's sheet, to the right.)

What you do in turns:

You may...
buy and sell x number of y good
  RP and haggle
resupply your ship, such as buying parts or hiring crew
  choose your destination

And others I may not have thought of.

EDIT : The unmarked orange star near Athens is Istanbul.

In case everyone is lost and can't think how to post a turn:
(Example)

I buy 25 steel and 12 muskets.
Buy a better sail and hire three sailors.
Go to Sevilla.

Very easy ;P

You can haggle btw.

Alexandre rubbed his chin thoughtfully. What should he name his small caravel? She was undoubtedly a beauty... ah! That's a name! l'Enclume, is what his ship will be called. Perhaps the name was a contrast to the ship's size, but it fit in other ways.

Alexandre smiles, nodding his head as he thinks of the name. Yes, it will work. He turns his back to the l'Enclume and looks over the bustling port, with all it's merchants and peddlers and stores. Alexandre had always been fascinated by ports. A man could find whatever he needed from them, buy anything or sell anything, find or learn everything. It was quite amazing. Culture all wrapped up into one tiny place...

Alexandre started pacing along the pier, looking specifically for Industrial Merchants. He found 3. Men selling parchment, beeswax, and marble respectively. He would buy a bit of all. First, he stopped at the Beeswax Merchant.
"My fine sir, this beeswax is far too expensive! I'd settle for the price of 940 at the very most! It's absolutely deplorable! Do you know how many other places I could find beeswax for a exponentially cheaper price?!"
Alexandre will buy 12 cargoes of beeswax, if he gets a price-cut. If not, buy 10.

Next, Alexandre made his way to the Marble Merchant, and was absolutely shocked when he found out that the marble went for an execrable price of 2895 per cargo! Alexandre shook his head and rubbed the bridge of his nose. Well, the best he could do would be to try to haggle the price down.
"Are you quite insane enough, good man?! I could go to any old place and buy some marble for the price of a good tank of beer! It's only rock, not gold, or are you seeing things wrong? By God, I could even mine some myself and get it for the low price of free!"
Alexandre will buy 5 cargoes, possibly 7 or 8 if he gets a good-enough price-cut.

Finally, Alexandre took a visit to the Parchment Merchant. Again, the prices seemed quite brutish. It was quite the same procedure as the two previous merchants; try to haggle the price down and buy extra cargoes if he could get the price down low enough.
"Do you know how many people are producing parchment, these days? And you have the nerve to sell it for this price?! Terrible and greedy, it is. 1000 would be barely acceptable, but 1119? Terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE!"

Finally, Alexandre taps his chin thoughtfully. Olive oil, and olives in general were quite unique to Greece. It would be profitable if he were to buy some, he thought. He decided to buy 15 cargoes of olives, and 10 of olive oil. Again, he would try to haggle the price a bit lower.

One last final thing, Alexandre thought. It would be a good idea to capitalize on the small size and speed of his ship, so he attempts to buy a better sail (if he can find one). Also, Alexandre looks for 3 new, respectable sailors to have an even number of 10, for that extra bit of manpower that he would no doubt need eventually, or even now. If all seems to be in order, set sail for Alexandria. Alexandre grinned, thinking of Alexandria. What better place to start than the place that pretty much held his own name?

You should have posted in the OOC thread...

The second paragraph is yes to all accounts. The last known price is always sale price. The price you can sell at varies depending on distance, culture, and market price, which changes rapidly.

((Ahhh, found this late. Sorry everyone. Also, cheers for the tradeship! Took me a while to know how to use Google Docs.))

Juan Crisóstomo I. Lopez, Drug Dealer and owner of a Light Caravel: dubbed 'San Ruiz', began his morning checking it if it was sea-worthy, noting the quality of the wood and sails.

It was a pleasing to his eyes, dwarfed by the larger ships of the day. But, it did not matter, this one was his. And it was beautiful.

He walked cheerfully up to one of the many dock merchants dotting the harbor, and struck a bargain.
Quote from: Translated into English, for your Convenience
"Good Morning."
"Mornin', what do you need?"
"Condiments, Drugs, Medical supplies and the like."
"Alright, let me just check..."
"Hurry, my good sir. I have much to do."
"We have about 30 Salt in stock, not much along the lines of Drugs and Medical Supplies.
"About 237 gold per Salt."
"Let me cut a deal, lower the price to 230 and I'm buying. Buying it all."
"Ermm..."

Buying all the salt available, while haggling for the price (30 Salt, leaving him with ~42,000), Juan then decides to Buy sails for his ship (3) and Fill the crew with decent men. Searching in the local areas for sailors or marines and the like.

Then proceeding to Venicia

I name my ship E minacce con picchi di carpe osso
I buy 2 Pepper and 20 Chicken meat
I sail to Paris*

You buy two pepper and 20 chicken meat.

You sail to Paris. It takes 8 days to get there. You pay 640 ducats for crew.

The current price of selling pepper is 3116 per crate. The current price of chicken is 359 per box.

You can possibly get 24454 ducats as a result of your sale.

Buy full sail and full crew.

Buy up all Liquor, Western Books and Daggers (in this order if not enough money to do so)
Sail to Madeira.

You hire seven more crew with an initial price of 1000 D per man. You then buy 25 brandy for 18725 D and 35 western books for 21875 D. You have 2400 D left. Then, you sail for Madeira. It takes 4 days to get there, with a 580 D expense of pay.

Brandy can be sold for 645 per box: there was a fall in the market price. Western books can be sold for 670.8 per box.

@Repulsion

The bee wax merchant strongly disagreed with Alexandre, insisting the wax was worth exactly 966 ducats per box, no less! Alexandre bought ten boxes and ordered them loaded in his ship.

The marble merchant cut the price to 2750 ducats, no doubt due to Alexandre's less-then-optimal haggling skill. Still, it was good enough, and every ducat counted. He bought six crates of marble. Alexandre spent 16500 ducats.

Meanwhile, the parchment merchant was irked by Alexandre's rants of 'terrible', but wanting to empty his overhead, he grudgingly agreed to 1000 per box.  (You did not specify how many you wanted to buy :/ Assumes ten.) Alexandre purchased ten boxes of parchment for 10000 ducats.

The olive oil vendor handed over the oil at 300 per box; the olive seller only sold at 250, a mere 5 ducats off. Alexandre also hired three strong sailors and finds a good stay-sail for 5000 ducats, along with free installation. He then set sail for Alexandria, which he shared his name with. Two days of sail (and 200 ducats) later, he entered port, only to be refused by the port authorities. First, he didn't know an inkling of Arabic. Second, he did not have the proper attire. The port officials did allow him to stay the night in port.

@Tiruin

The merchant eyed him, then asked, "Are you a Castellan?"
Juan replied yes.
The merchant looked at him again, and started rambling about "stuck-up French and arrogant Islamic merchants messing the hell up", before selling him 35 crates of salt at 30 crate's price, at 230 per crate. He patted him on the back and told him to stick it up to those foreigners.

Juan then went to the local bar. He greeted the owner, an old friend of his, and asked around for some decent men with some sailing experience. He hired eight Castellan sailors and headed towards Venice. Nine days of smooth sailing in the Mediterranean later, he docked at Venice.

Salt was selling at 241 per box, excluding tariffs. He could possibly net 7600, a mere 700 ducat profit, but profit nonetheless. Apparently, salt prices had slightly fell over the last week and some.

"Two hundred and forty-one." Juan muttered, not a good price, but he didn't think anywhere else would suffice.

He then sells all his salt.

Now, searching the dock goods, he comes across fine Satin Fabrics. Noting down it's remarkable price, he then uses all he has to buy what he can: of Satin, that is.

It was remarkable, and had a good feeling about it. With that, he bade the merchant a good day and left with a compliment, now mostly all his money spent, he had to find a good place to sell it.

"To Paris!"
He yelled at the Helmsman of San Ruiz.

Buy 17 fur, 30 sausage, and 30 barley.

(Think I've got that right, +5 for level 1 fiber skill over list? If not, just the 12 I can buy.)

Look for some extra sails to add some speed to the ship and a spy-glass to better spot pirates at a distance and avoid them. Shall troll the pubs by the warf to find some able bodied young men to help man the ship.

Sail for [London]

Xavier unloaded all of his western books. He was unsure whether or not it was a profit, though.

He then bought 35 sugar cane and 10 wooden statues. He set sail to Las Palmas.

The proud, unnamed Light Caravel reached port in two days. 290 in maintenance.

Because the distance was so short, and the culture almost identical, and most importantly Las Palmas also sold sugar cane, they would sell at 150. The wooden statues would sell for 1038 per crate.

@Tiruin

Juan sold 35 boxes for 250 each. He received 7895 ducats in return. He then bought 13 boxes of satin for 3156 each. He only had 617 ducats left. He quickly left for Paris.

The 9 days it took to get there, he doled out 1350 in pay and wrote out 733 ducat's worth of bonds to be paid at Paris. It was a good thing his crew were yet loyal to him - he had heard many stories of crew members pocketing trade goods such as gold nuggets, jewels or gold bars.

Juan entered port, to find many people panicking near the trade post. Apparently, someone had bought up huge amounts of bronze statues, numbering in the hundreds, and the price had spiked to 173%. Duck meat too had spiked to 137%.

Satin was unfortunately sold at Paris, meaning he could only get 2193 per box. He should go somewhere else. The crew looked disheartened but still did not complain.

@techno65535

RECEIPT
Fur 17 22032
Sausage 30 11070
Barley 30 1080

TOTAL 34182
LEFT 15818

He was able to use his knowledge of fabric and fiber to buy 5 extra than the amount listed.

Mehmed then bought a small spy-glass for 500 ducats and hired 8 strong men from the bars.

He left for London. It took 4 days and 600 ducats in pay to get there.

Fur currently sold for 1588 ducats: its price had risen to 119% over the last couple of days. Sausage could be sold for 428 per box, and barley 44.
