I think trading in coins for notes made out of pressed rope reeds would be a brilliant idea. These notes could then be used to trade at the bank, or be cashed in for vanilla coins :D

Trading in markets will be difficult to balance, because all items in your fortress are per se produced in your fortress anyway ;)

But if you find a way to exchange coins into paper that has the same value, even better :)

Actually...if I do some digging in my raws I can find paper thread and a reaction to make it. Its used for making letters, but it can be adapted for notes.

Quote
ability to buy and sell goods on the global market

The global market thing is used in my bretonnian faction of warhammer mod. Basically there is merchant club building where you can exchange metal bars for transaction points (or merchant deals or international coins or whatever)

-exchange copper into transaction points    [5 to 1]
-exchange bronze into transaction points            [5 to 1]
-exchange iron into transaction points       [3 to 1]
-exchange steel into transaction points       [1 to 1]
-exchange gold into transaction points       [1 to 1]
-turn transaction points into club advance points   [5 to 1]

You unlock new markets (where you buy things from other races) by simply buying and selling stuff (each reaction has a chance of giving you club advance point which are used to change ratio in the merchant club and creating new markets) or simply pumping many bars to buy advance points. By adding different kinds of advance points (bronze/iron/gold) you can make the whole system really, really complex.

So essentially your dwarves build a human merchant, and then buy anything with metals. But for every item you can buy you have to write a custom reaction ?

Pretty much this is an idea I had cooked up to use in regeneration, looks like Shintaro got there first (never knew you did this :P)

@Meph Essentially. I just like the look and idea of traders coming and building their shops in your fort.
@Hugo Great minds think alike!

Nice. That way you could even include trading with races that are at war with you. Troll merchant doenst care for war, he just wants profit. :) Could include a completely new line of products as well.

Like gnome tailors who will turn those "small" or "big" armours taken from killed siegers into the right size for your dwarves or, for a fair price, will preserve the item making a copy of it.

Well knew version of the mod is up.
It includes several shops were you can spend your coins to get various supplies and goods.
I removed the make silver and gold coins as I felt having to create numerous reaction to accomidate the different coins would be annoying and tedious, so now there is just copper coins.

Soon to come is the ability to sell various things to the shop to earn coins, as well as more things available for to buy from the shops.

Also i am still balancing the various exchange rates so feed back on that is good.

I have uploaded the files to dffd just so i dont have to scroll through the long sheet of code, instead it is all in file form available for download.

Please try, and then feel free to give feed back thx

cheers

Can you just DragnDrop in this mod to the raws folder or do you need to modify entity files and the like themselves?
