Erin went over the list again...Derrick wanted the black forest ham, no cheese, rye bread, extra mayo...Angelo wanted turkey and ham, extra mustard on whole wheat...Tiffany wanted the roast beef and provolone on Italian bread...McKillian opted for shredded pork and melted swiss cheese on a gyro...

Erin sighed, blowing a stray lock of apple red hair (all natural honey) from her brow in mild frustration. She had forgotten what she wanted for lunch. And why was everyone so loud? It was getting difficult to concentrate...

Action: Order lunch for everyones

Turn 1

 After several minutes of trying to get the orders that you were supposed to get squared away you break. There was just too much chattering. Far too much noise. “Ok!” You scream at the top of your lungs, catching the majority of the crowd’s attention. “If you all shut the hell up and sit the hell down I will buy your lunch for you.” The noise level seemingly picks back up as your rant nears its end. To prove how serious you were with your statement you stop ordering your food and let the line move forward. As the next person moved in to pay for their food, you swiped your card. They look at you and open their mouth but your furious face makes them close it again. You repeat the process for or five times until the whole place quiets down and everyone seems to fall in line. Two people chip in as you pay for everybody’s food including your fellow office workers, but before you can buy something for yourself, you hear an explosion that seems to shake the whole building.

 You don’t manage to get more than useless information. But what you can piece together is that, whatever is happening, it is headed this way. You figure that it would be wiser to try watching the news to get more definite information. You head out the door just as the lady starts shouting, just to be met with the fact that traffic is at a complete standstill if you were to try to drive now, you wouldn’t reach the bar for another hour. It would be much faster to make the fifteen minute walk there. So you go to your car and grab all your valuables and handgun, and leave. No point in leaving them in the car, these people will try to break into it the second they see something they like. It takes you nearly twenty minutes to get there and, as soon as you do, you hear an explosion and feel the shock wave.

 It takes you no time at all to get there. In fact, you look at your watch and note that its 5:33. Not bad for heavy traffic. At the auto shop you managed, not only to find a high quality large hubcap, but it was fifty percent off. There was no line, so you were in and out in minutes and made it home less than ten minutes by taking a shortcut through a residential area. Once you get home and settle all your materials in your workshop, you proceed to make your shield like a boss.

 You decide that it would be best to take your M249 and three spare clips. It was accurate and you had plenty of ammo for it. After that you open your phone to call your brother a few towns over. You managed to get nothing but a dial tone, telling you that all phones are in fact down. Not much you could have done about that, so you tried to plan out the next reasonable line of action. Information gathering. You think of leaving the house to ask more people about what’s going on, but decide against it. If you were caught outside with this and the rumors aren’t true, you would be looking at a long jail time. You manage to avoid that while satisfying your lust for these illegal weapons, and you weren’t about to risk that now. So, instead, you choose the internet as a fall back. And what a crappy fall back it is the most you can manage to find is an old drama zombie podcast called We are Still Living, and a whole bunch of other things that couldn’t possibly be true or relevant.

 You are walking into the rehabilitation center, already waiting for the day to end. You can swear that this job will turn you into a zombie when it’s through. But you can’t really complain. They had a huge lay off the day before, but you managed to keep under the wire, so you weren’t even considered. Still, this job seemed slightly unbecoming. You had been working for a Masters in the medical field for years and all you could get is a job at a rehabilitation center. Suddenly your thoughts are broken by a sharp pop and a tremor.

In later years (days? hours? We don't know how much time she has left, remember...) Erin would look back upon those last few moments in the sub shop, as she exercised control as the final hurrah of a lost civilization and sanity over the coming barbarity and madness-one last gasp of the world she had known, where everyone was gleefully unaware of how close everything was to falling into the abyss. They believed, truthfully, that the pretty woman who was giving the orders to them meant everything was going to turn out O.k.

She had actually smiled, as the shop quieted down-and people began talking about things other than the upcoming apocalypse-sports games, politics, television shows... A somewhat handsome man, she saw, was surreptitiously making his across the room to hit on her and...

Then, the explosion.

Everything she had ever known fell apart like a child's sandcastle at high tide.

Erin Flores somewhat belatedly dropped to the ground, knowing it was all over-and she was so young, wished she had worked less, found a lover, gone mountain climbing in the Rockys and diving in the keys, what about her sister, her parents...and She didn't even get her lunch! How could the universe be so cruel?

But, there was something in her that didn't want to die yet. She made her way out of the shop, gripping her meager hand taser in her purse with all the conviction a Priest would a crucifix in a den of vampires.

Action: Make my way back to the office! I've got to warn my co-workers.
