Melt metal object

Looks like this uses 1 metal object and 1 piece of charcoal or coke to produce...nothing. Is this intended? Seems like a very expensive method of garbage disposal if so.

You are supposed to get a metal bar(s). What did you try to melt? I suspect if you melt something that takes less than one bar to produce, you'll get nothing.

I tried to melt a large copper dagger. Maybe this could either be changed to give the same number of bars back that were used in the making of the item, or allow several items to be melted together into a bar.

It is keeping track of the amount melted.  Keep melting more in the same place, and you'll eventually get a whole bar.  Note that it seems to be fairly inefficient, at least for me, and you'll end up with a lot less metal than you started with.
