Well, Melritch WAS level 16. While I do not, in fact, want half the Royal Army after me, the way you had put it made me think it was an inevitable consequence to assuming such a high level.

It was, but not assuming such a crazy-high level would avoid it.

The character'd feel useless if he was weaker than an an elite Orc after 200 years of arcane practice and immortality. Do I at least have time to get to the tower and flee into Orcish Lands?

Flee into Orcish lands? Well, ignoring the fact you'd need a boat... Why would you want to go to Orcish Lands?

It is true that the Orcs are tougher, but there is no reason they'd go after me themselves until something new happened... Right?  :o

I meant to sneak in there, not proclaim myself their sovereign and get ripped to shreds. Would being level 16 make him THAT infamous?

Yes.

But even if he wasn't, the Rhoduarians would probably say something about the possibly-very-dangerous Necromancer that seemed to have disappeared to who-knows where.

You'd only be safe there if you played by their rules; The main one being, not going around killing everyone and everything. But, you'd still need a boat.
