Er. Why are you attacking him, anyway? If your character's deal is you want to learn more about magic, wouldn't you want to try and get him to teach you about it? He is an old lich, anyway, he must know tons of stuff.

I'm a neutral character. Who am I more likely to support, the lich reanimating dug up corpses, or the random gnome?

Statwise, including items, a full mana Melritch would blow you to smitterings.

Not particularly. If I got close enough, it could go either way.

I get your point... but metagaming-wise, I'd still go after Chompski because he'd be worth more EXP. XD

Melritch could immediatly Arcane Ward for 12 damage soaking, which, together with 3,75 Defense, renders your melee useless. You can't outsummon or outdamage him as both his Magic Damage bonus and his Mana pool fairly outsize Caboose's. The gap in HP is easily covered by the difference in Magical Resistance and the increased Ward efficiency.

That is to be expected as hybrid builds, Caboose being a minor case, only shine in the mid to late game, as their power is based on synergies which are not immediaty availiable.

My plan so far has been to summon two arcane elementals then use a bolt attack. As far as I know, damage is pooled together when it's focused on one enemy. It could still go either way.

Damage is not pooled together for soaking purposes. A good example is how my 5 elementals barely damaged Chomspki. Also, Melritch's bolt spells can pull off 12-31 damage and he is currently guarded by 5 Arcane Elementals. Adding in the five Risen Guards being fielded against the gnome and lichom, Caboose has far more to lose than Melritch himself.

Actually it seems to, if you look at my battle with the elementals the first two hits never did any damage, but then the third one did  consistently.  Unless I'm missing something.

I'm curious how the wards work. I know they're sustained, but I don't know if it's ever been said whether they soak a specific amount and recover, or are just cheap devices of constant, cheap blocking.

My damage pooling thought was from the fight with the mage hunter. Anin never fixed the text, so it was never stated whether they attacked at the same time for one damage pool, or whether they attacked separately.

I still haven't read up on your battle, but that hasn't happened to me so far. Both against Christopher and against Chompski, multiple bolts aimed at a same target were treated individually.

Edit: Yes, damage does stack when bypassing the Arcane Ward, as the spell's text specifically states "damage per turn" (the equivalent of x temporary hitpoints being gained each turn, which each gain only lasting for a single turn), but it is probaly calculated after individual mitigations.

It's only been six days since the last update, though I can understand your impatience when the game was going so fast. At least it's not a Man of SCIENCE!! or Elves of Amanereli level drop in activity.

After a quick scouring through TvTropes, I can safely say we're all currently Blessed with Suck.
