You approach the red 'spire' and ask it the question. For a long while, it is motionless, but the silence is soon broken by a loud cracking noise, from somewhere underneath you.

You cast Shadowbolt on the driver, but the spell misses him as the carriage begins to speed up. One of your remaining skeletons throws itself at the horses, while Fritz swings his axe at the connection between the carriage and the horses. The cart comes to a halt, while the horses continue galloping into the distance. The Carriage drive lets out a loud yell, leaping from the carriage and sprinting down the road after them.

(A) Ezriel sprints into the carriage driver's path, hoping that he will be able to restrain the man long enough for Igor or Fritz to come over and put him down.

The red spire rises from the ground, causing the ground below you to shake violently. Shortly afterwards three other spires erupt from the ground around it.

He had no hope of chasing the dwarf. And besides that, he had allowed two survivors to escape last time- Allowing it to happen again would harm him as much as it benefited him. That was to say, not at all.

There was still one guard left. Ezriel turned his attention back to the fight.

Ezriel would have sighed, were he living. Instead, he let out a low and feral growl before making his way towards the wagon.

A) Take stock of the situation. Were all guards slain? Or did one get away during the post-battle commotion?

They are unable to. It's doubtful that they'd be able to do it, even with the help of the slain guards. You'll have to think of something else...

A) Rest for a bit, at least until able to summon a bunch of skeletons again. Once a full contingent has been reformed, see if the group fo 8 or so can move the wagon at all.

A full group of 8 is able to move the carriage, albeit very slowly. However, another problem is brought to your attention... How would you drag it through the forest?

Ezriel sighed. So much for using the wagon as a makeshift door. At the very least, perhaps he could throw up some sort of diversion to keep the villages off his trail.

A) Have the group of 8 move the wagon off of to the side of the road. Then have them take the crates and corpses and begin a hike back to the tower. Using the blood of the slain, Ezriel creates several arcane-looking, but otherwise useless, markings on the wagon before following them.
