Raspberry pi production has started!
« on: January 12, 2012, 10:33:01 pm »

http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/509

For those who don't know about it:
Quote
The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and a keyboard. It’s a capable little PC which can be used for many of the things your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games. It also plays high-definition video. We want to see it being used by kids all over the world to learn programming.

Hhhhm, an interesting idea, but how exactly will it encourage kids to learn programming?

It's a cheap computer using linux. I guess by virtue of easing avaiability to computers and compilers, more children will have the chance to experiment.

I think it's a good idea. This kind of device sort of encourages tinkering to make it do things, and that's a good way to learn computer skills, I think

Ah, I didn't realize that it ran Linux.

I agree, wish I had had something similar when I was a kid, then maybe I would have gotten around to actually learning some programming skills other than basic HTML coding. :p

Me dad said he's going to buy a dozen of those and combine them into one super-computer.

I just hope that none of the kids get any stupid ideas and try to chew on them or anything. *drool*

I had that same idea. I read an article on how to do it on linux magazine and I want to give it a try

You would be better off trying to do so with better computers. $25-$35 per unit, with those specs it would be more price efficient to just buy a large computer if power is what you want out of it.

I want to learn to do that stuff. I don't have any practical applications for such a thing right now, but I think it's useful to have general computer know-how. You never know when that will be useful.

I plan on getting one, if I can. Definitely good for mobile coding.

Been watching this project for months. I'm planning to get at least one, thinking of trying to make it the core of a wearable computer...

Or maybe some sort or 'embedded' system around the house...

Or this:
buy a dozen of those and combine them into one super-computer a mini-cluster, purely for shits and giggles

So many cool ideas, so little free time...

I definitely have to get one of this. I don't know why I need one, but I'm pretty sure I do.

I'm calling it now, someone will make a case and inputs for this thing and turn it into a video game (maybe emulation) system.
