You tap your temple thoughtfully as you think of what to do with this new, mysterious mixture. Of course, one of the most logical choices would be to simply inject it into yourself... but what if it is an acid, or a toxin?! That would be completely inconvenient, and not relevant to your agenda. The next best choice would be to simply capture a rat or a mouse to do so... and in that you are in luck! There are massive rat nests in this slum, so it should be no big problem getting one. But, of course, you have to have a place to put the rats at, and you have to have a reliable way to catch them without killing them, which your hammer and/or bonesaw might not be able to facilitate. Of course, you could just grab the unknown chemical and the syringe, and quickly inject any rat that you get your hands on... yes, that could work. Grabbing the chemical and a needle/syringe, you carefully open your door, locking it behind you. It took a good amount of money to get those good locks, and you'd say they'd come in pretty useful.
You pace out into the dank and dirty corridor, carefully looking for any signs of a rats nest. That would mean holes in the walls, and usually a good amount of trash scattered around said hole...(17) Ah, yes! You pace into a room, a room that the locals call the "Rat Maze." It holds many of the holes into the inner workings of where the rats live, and would be the perfect place to wait and look for a rat, and thus you do so. Some time passes, before a group of rats scuttles into the door, and you spring to attention, using your knowledge of how a brain reacts, and your physics skill. (15) You quickly grab one, making sure to hold it's head away from you, lest it attempts to bite you. You quickly inject one unit of the strange chemical into the rat and after several minutes of struggling it... falls asleep? Well, at least you made a powerful sedative... but what else does it do? You ponder on what to do next. Do you take the rat back to your lab, and attempt to design a pen for it? Or do you let it go and try some of the drug yourself?
