The Tattoo thread! Yay!
« on: January 07, 2012, 03:46:15 pm »

Hello all. I'm surprised no other threads have been created for this, as a search turned up no results.
Basically, share any tattoos you have or any ideas for tattoo designs.

I personally have been planning on getting one resembling this:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's a "Kolovrat", or sunwheel as it's known to other cultures. They're ancient slavic sun symbols. The only thing I'm a little worried about is that someone might think I'm a racist because it obviously resembles a swastika (a symbol that is unfortunately stigmatized) and is sometimes (regrettably) used by neo-nazis... On the other hand, it's used by non-racist neo-pagans.

My second option would be some phrase in cyrillic. Maybe from a famous Ukrainian poet or something. I've yet to find something.

I agree with the problems presented by that design, before I actually saw it I subconsciously went "Swastika, what?"

I think I might have to go with a nordic knot or a viking drakkar to avoid the possibility of being labelled a racist. Or maybe I'll just say the fuck with it, swastikas were so common as symbols of peace and good luck pre-nazis that it's a shame they've been given this reputation.

It seems that the bay12 community doesn't have a whole lot of tattoo connoisseurs  :-[

I've liked the idea of getting a tattoo for a really long time, but I've never thought really hard about what or where. Only thing that comes to mind would be a black and white of the fish in the top left of this, but I'm not sure.

or a viking drakkar

This is really nice.

That picture is... interesting to say the least. Basically you're saying you want a black and white goldfish?

Google turns up this:

I've been idly pondering for some time about getting a tattoo myself, but I feel like there needs to be some occasion for it.

It'd be a classic skull-and-banner bicep tattoo.  The skull would be cracked open, the banner reading (in appropriately gothic lettering) "I've been wrong before".  It means something to me.

I'm going to get a bunch of stuff done by this guy~
Starting with a couple of peonies on my left arm that I'll later turn into a sleeve~

Other things I'm planning to get include: a centipede, a dragon, plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, and chrysanthemums ~

Hrm, what do I want as a cutie mark...

Ehh I probably wouldn't want a tattoo in the first place because it'd probably get ugly as I get older.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I've considered getting a tattoo, to the point of wanting one, but I've no idea what of or where. :I

I have a couple of ideas I want to get... First being a heap of Robot Dinosaurs. Or maybe a cyborg T-Rex fighting some other giant monster amongst the smoking ruins of a city? That'd probably go on a bicep, but to fit in enough action I might need larger biceps...
TO THE GYM! :P Another idea is a cliched spiderweb sleeve on my forearm/hand, the twist being that I shall go to many different tattooists, getting each of them to add in a spider or fly or some other insect to the web, in all sorts of different styles.
Dunno, I thought it sounded cool.

I don't know about getting one myself, but a friend of mine had the Triforce tattooed onto his hand, and that was kinda spiffy.

I thought of a couple of tattoos. One I thought was cool in a tattoo magazine I was going to get, because I thought the symbolism was significant and respresentive of myself, until I saw the exact same artwork on the label of some crappy punk-rock band CD. Glad I saw that before I got it, or I'd have people saying to me "Cool tattoo, bro, you like that band that much?"

I wanted to get "Live Free or Die" in blunt, block lettering on my forearm, because I think it's bad-ass and means something to me, but it turns out its only the state motto of New Hampshire and said nowhere else and I'm not from New Hampshire, so I can't get away with that, either.

So I haven't been inspired to get anything else. Thought about M.C. Escher artwork, but it'd just be meaningless decoration, even if it is somewhat more highbrow then skulls, roses, spiders, snakes, barbwire and naked chicks with weapons or whatever. I also think mushroom clouds are cool, but it'd be less cool if someplace is nuked in the future, then I'd feel like a douche.

I think I'm just going to leave my skin uninked. Some really square people and government agencies have a unreasonable problem with tattoos and getting one might be something I regret if such a person is a potential employer or whatever.

I've wanted a tattoo on the back of my hand for a while now, but I've found that it would fade considerably within a year. I'd have to have it touched up often, and the image couldn't be complex due to the smaller amount of pores on the back of the hand. So maybe I'll have to consider something else.

If I were to get a tattoo I'd get a celtic knot sun on my back.
