Will dwarves survive until fall with no water?  If so they can trade with the caravan at that point,  unless no caverns means the caravan wont bring subterranean plants.  I'd think the parent civ would have some growing in dirt.
They won't survive until fall without anything to drink, and if there aren't any subterranean plants because there's no water in the caverns/no caverns, the dwarven civilization wouldn't have any drinks to bring anyway. So you'd have to survive until the elves arrived with surface plants in the second spring, but it's likely that your whole fort would die of dehydration by the first summer, and even if migrants came before the initial 7 died and more migrants came before the firs migrants died you still wouldn't last the winter.
