as the poll said i totally just open Hell on accident on my best Fortress so far. i dont want to lose it yet because i just killed elfs late spring and i want a chance to kill them next spring so any advice? i found a cavern and though i run .25 i am a noob and prepared for creatures anyways i have a line of cage and stone fall traps and my military is moving into position no i dont have magma traps or flooding rooms or anything in fact its just a strait shoot down to about -70 then it heads south a bit then there is the cavern. so should i hope for the best? or just cry my self to sleep later and start a new one? after of course i get done watching the massacer

They died for their fellow Dwarves. They will be remembered, at least until your Dwarves see a particularly nice statue.

Build rows upon rows of memorials dedicated to your militia that died in the sake of industry and cheaper goods.

DOESN'T SEEM SO NOBLE NOW DOES IT?

You're not always dead, though.
I dug too deep in my last fortress, and the local denizen did not try to invade my fortress. They simply staid down for 2 full years, minding their own business and eating up my fps, while my fortress was totally exposed (the mining shaft staid open, so that I could mine the blue stuff). I only had 2 mining accidents when ash devils attacked the haulers. The local pond-grabbers were more dangerous than these guys.
Things "went to hell" only when I sent my militia to try and colonise the downbelow land.

Adam* ain't worth mudstone to a dwarf if he's dead.

Also, some notes about maximizing Adam* usage:
1) - no longer valid; removed -
2) Make strands with anyone (unskilled just takes longer).
3) Only let legendary metal workers make things with it.
4) Keep it out of your hospitals!

Wall it off.  It's not going anywhere.
You can make preparations, and get to it later.

Also, some notes about maximizing Adam* usage:
1) Only mine it with legendary miners.
This isn't necessary - unless things have changed since version 0.28, [DEEP] materials have a 100% chance of yielding a usable boulder when mined, even if the miner is only Dabbling.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Yeah. That's why people use Useless Migrants to mine it. If you have to wall the dwarf in with the circus, at least he doesn't leave behind fifteen tantruming friends.
