No iron ores
« on: January 06, 2012, 11:15:27 pm »

I've dug out half of my maps limestone layer which should yield to atleast a few veins of iron ore if i recall the wiki correctly but i simply didn't find any.

What is a good approach to get one of the three iron ores? Digging out the sedimentary layers didn't really work for me.

I don't want my dwarfs to run around in copper armor like dirty goblins nor do i have any tin to smelt bronze.

I would suggest that you embark near a volcano. And you don't need to dig out the ENTIRE layer. Just dig simple tunnels in a grid.

You can also smelt any goblin iron stuff to get goblinite.

trade and kill goblins for your iron.  it's not that hard to get that way, flux is more of a pain since you only get it if you request it from dwarves and they only bring a few lumps at a time.

Nice joke, for a moment I thought you were serious about trading with goblins for iron... Right?

*chuckle* I should probably have phrased that better.  I meant trade, with humans and dwarves, and kill goblins.
