I am split on the issue of adventurers still.  On the one hand, allowing them would allow for some interesting backstories when the fortresses are created. On the other, it would lessen the impact for later adventurers and possibly undermine the purpose of the whole project. However, thinking about the time-frame of the project, I realized that some of the villains might die of natural causes before we had a chance to get to them. I wouldn't mind those people being knocked off.

Why can't people play their turn, end their fort, send the save to the community and then go adventuring in the world they just left, but without slowing down the system, or potentially harming the end product.

I'm not joining this as I don't think I'd have time for more than bedrooms and a dinning room in 10 days, but I'll be picking up a copy of the save when I get the opportunity to have an hour of adventure from time to time. Noticing changes to the world should be quite interesting.

I think adventuring in cannon should be disallowed, simply because it's not the focus of the project.

An entire separate thread can be created to the dedication of exploring all the new forts as they're created, but otherwise it's already going to be enough of a challenge to keep the project moving along smoothly. While the creation of new historical figures within the context of some fortresses would indeed be cool, I think it would be the exception to what most people were aiming for with their forts.

Anyway, I have nothing against adventuring itself, but in the context of this project, I think we should just forego it entirely, if only to keep things on track.

I agree with this 100%. And hopefully participate in both threads

That's actually a really, really good idea. The separate thread, I mean.

Canon adventuring shouldn't be completely removed though. (Adventurer raids on abandoned forts anyone?)

Okay, I've stumbled upon this thread just now and really like the idea. I've also read the rules and have no problem with them (I'd personally stick to a dwarf fort though, but to each his own, I suppose). Can I still sign up for a turn?

i dont see a problem with this.

I actually think this might be the easiest, simplest solution as well. Adventurers may play and post logs of their playtime, but ultimately not upload a save including any adventurers.

It is entirely possible as well for players to create an adventurer, kill a few random wildlife, and immediately retire.

Those mod fixes are a good idea. Pop cap I would vote against - it's just another contributing factor to a fort's demise. The same goes for temperature, except if it's for FPS purposes. If you're fooling around with magma at all, you should have to keep it on.

If a person has in mind a certain use for canon adventurers in his own fortress and not anywhere, he should be allowed to create them. In order to preserve the natural state of the world, the player is allowed to change their character's speed to 0 in the raws, so that he can run away from ambushes and boogeymen that attack en route to the fortress.

In this way, those who have plans for a creative fortress that requires adventurers can make the site that they want, and time isn't being wasted by essentially pointless adventurers.  The request to use adventurers would have to be made (and approved) in advance, of course.
