This could work the same way if he was humble. He kills 30 goblins, he says he only killled 20, and he becomes an unsung hero.

Perhaps this could be the dwarf's "memory". If the player is indeed Armok, you could be looking inside the dwarf's memories to see his life as he remembers it. I don't know if you fellows would like this, but maybe his memories could become distorted through magic, age or madness for example he might remember his father as a jackal and having spoken to a god.

To make this biography continue after death, you could assign a literate dwarf to write down his biography so you can read it.

This would make perfect sense. Much like a broker is needed to calculate the fortresses wealth, a scribe is needed to record the dwarves history.  Say you have a year to assign your scribe an empty slab to write down his history or it starts becoming corrupted.  You can but the slab in the tomb and read it at your leisure.

This is one of those rare things - a good, original idea that would actually make a positive change in the game, and it is actually feasable to see it implemented. Nice one.

And thanks. I'm still waiting for Footkerchief to come in with his links to other threads. I can't believe there is actually something that NOBODY has suggested.

This is what legends mode is for.

This is what legends mode is for.

Um.. some of us don't really want to quit the game every time we want to figure out a random fact. And personally I think that if legends mode records every single strange mood for 2000 years, it would become so data-heavy that it would be unusable.  For the data most of us need, the only feasible way to access it is on a fortress scale, and unless they dramatically overhaul legends I don't think it would be possible.

But I can see your point. What I'm asking for it a lot like the timeline already present for units in legends mode.  But instead of a world-wide focus (which is legends mode's specialty) I'm only looking for a fortress-wide focus (which is fortress mode's specialty).  Until we can send dwarves on journeys in fortress mode and really interact with the world at large, it would be best to keep it localized.

I support that idea! But there must be a way to view that log even after a dwarf died, if you ask me. That's very important. Do you have soundsense? It really helps missing less important stuff that is going on.

I DID but don't anymore. It might be a good idea to redownload.. it will give me an excuse to turn up the sound again and enjoy the mandolin serenade.

If all the logs were to be stored in a text file, that'd be amazing.

Don't dwarven ladies know they're beautiful the way they are? They don't need to starve themselves to look like those elven bitches.

The problem is that only Chuck Norris can read the log without dying.

Dude, you read the red herring text log. The real one is outside the fourth wall.

LIES! I have beheld the sacred tome with my own eyes!

Which is why I am a dwarf/elven hybrid monstrosity, as a punishment.

No man, you read the second red herring text log, behind the first one. It's basically a fractal :d
