For games that want to go to market....well, Project Zomboid. :P

A consistently updated, improved and expanded game?

Let's not forget the darkside of it. Multiple sloppy approaches to selling their beta that eventually saw them losing money to piracy, to the degree it was killing their bandwidth.

The attention eventually turned into a negative backlash from fans when updates started taking forever.

A piece-meal approach to development which, as of today, still doesn't include saving out the map file and character. (This will be part of the next upcoming patch.)

Poor PR and poor crisis response.

There are plenty of pitfalls for people who want to go to market too soon. Plenty of pitfalls even for people who have shipped titles before and made money as a developer. In my opinion, what can avoid a lot of those pitfalls is just being truly ready to unveil, having your ducks in a row, and IN PARTICULAR, not deving at random. Only now does it seem like PZ finally has a road map, after all the crap they've been through. I wouldn't wish that on any indie dev. So if people like to announce their game as soon as the engine is functional and the initial game textures are in....I hope they know what they're doing. When an indie game starts getting AAA attention, the stakes go up immensely.

Kerbal Space program was also made with Unity.... didn't see it on the list though.

Anyways, there isn't a huge risk to annoucing an indy project too soon. Infact, annoucing so early could give you a lot of good ideas for the early development of your game.

I think where indy developers run into problems is releasing their pre-order system too early. When people start dropping bills on your game they stop feeling excited and start feeling entitled.

My hope for this game would be that tunnels have one or maybe two levels below the ground. If you can build complicated tunnels that criss cross over the top of eachother it is going to be very difficult to keep track of what is going on.

I have to say, if the makers pull this off, It is a game I would most likely buy.
I will be watching this game, and pre-ordering if it looks good.

 Why are you not expecting the developers to cater to our every whim and promptly throw a hissy fit over those whims being pother peoples. This is an indie game comeon get with the times.

I just saw their forums, and people very hyped about this game.
Hype is not always a good thing people! A lot of hype may cause expectations to exceed what the devs can actually do, leading to disappointment. I'm not saying that hype itself is not a bad thing, just an over abundance of it. Without hype, how can people find the game in the first place?

Minor head up: Like Terraria, Castlestoryonline.com is now the official community forum. the sauropod forum will be kept for tech support, or something like that. The game's release will still be on the dev's site, though.

I'm not overly amused by the fact that they have the 'eventually' approach to even releasing a beta.

Sure they shouldn't make silly promises about when they will release but if they are going to go public and get me really interested could they at least throw me something?  The black mesa source people still haven't done anything and they probably wont have anything until half life 3 blows them out of the water at this point.

They are basically burning up all of their hype before they can even confirm that anything is going to happen.  Also when awesome games are 'hyped' and they hide away what they already have it just makes me sad instead of excited, because it means I never get to play.  Ever.  I have never seen a game this interesting that has suceeded after a hype up.

Why can't people just do stuff like Toady?

Anyways those are my thoughts.
