Reading over their bio, it's a two man team fresh out of university. So I'm not holding a lot of hopes that this is going to catapult to a playable release very soon. While a game like Terraria seems pretty simple, Red had a lot of experience prior to starting the project, in making web games and operating a flash game website. CS seems solid enough right now, but it wouldn't be the first time a promising project took forever to get to release, and maybe announced too early. So that's why I'm always kind of....ambivalent about games that literally have the first pieces in place and start working up publicity. For free indie projects, that's par for the course. For games that want to go to market....well, Project Zomboid. :P

This seems like a fun game. Guess there's another game to look forward to.

I think it's obviously taken a fair amount of inspiration from Rockstar North.

To be fair, the game is based of an existing engine, and that takes a lot of pressure of the devs.  That's the difference between making Minecraft from scratch, and making a Minecraft mod.  It puts them almost entirely into the "get content" phase instead of the long "get basics to stop exploding" phase.  Granted that having an engine isn't exactly a freebie into "almost done mode" but at least they don't have to design a physics engine, and they clearly already have block placement and building down.  Add some combat and you've got a demo!

People have done a lot of impressive tech demos in the Unity engine, but I have yet to see a full-scale sellable game from it. Most stuff like flash games because it can play in most browsers. I really do hope somebody makes a good example of what this engine can do.

And goddammit I keep reading the title as Cave Story and I always enter expecting to flaunt my prowess at this game.

I have a friend with no formal computer training who is able to pump out some quirky "games" with unity, it apparently has a very solid physics engine.
I find this good, because I never get bored of breaking things.

Yes it's easy to churn out stuff with it, but major projects like these are different beasts. It's like saying Flash is good for plonking out quirky little things until you start a 14-minute animation, where you find the program chugs at around 10 minutes. Large projects just run into technical limitations harder and have more problems with them. We'll have to wait and see what challenges they find and work around.

Yup, and I can tell you without looking them up that at least two of the games listed there are on Steam.  Probably a few more of them are too.

I've mucked around in Unity a fair bit and it's definitely a viable engine / dev kit, even if it does lack a few features present in UDK (Unreal).  Adding in the fact that they charge a one-off fee of $1500 for the pro version, don't charge royalties, and have a pretty damn extensive free version, Unity is pretty much perfect for a first time indie dev.

I fully agree. Unity engine FTW. I played battlestar galactica and truly appreciated mechanic (reminded me of freelancer...)

I'm eagerly waiting for this game, wich promise to fulfill the needs MC couldn't. Watching to post.
